Ok.....mega thanks for the suggestions, I'm going to sit down with youngest tonight and talk about some ideas.
I visited poundland and woolies this morning and got stocked up on crafty stuff so we should be able to produce something that looks like an Easter bonnet.(Thanks for the helpful instructions and links too :T )
Youngest had an idea of her own for decorating her egg that I thought was good....she wanted to do baby jesus in his manger (aka the egg with a face drawn on, wrapped in a shawl lying on straw, lol) in a stable (decorated shoebox) with playdough people. Since the easter egg is supposed to symbolise the rolling of the stone, I though the wee soul had come up with a good thoughtful idea that was at least connected (albeit very slightly, lol) to the religious origins.
She told one of the primary teachers today who apparently pooh poohed her idea and told her that was more suitable for Christmas and not Easter.
Best of it is...some of her pals are doing eggs decorated as spiders and the like. What the heck has a spider got to do with Easter?! Not a lot and neither will a lot of the other decorated eggs either, so I dont know why the teach even brought it up.
Daughter is now embarrassed and doesn't want to do her idea anymore. Grrrr! She's 8 & lacks confidence at the best of times.
I was going to say I'd post a pic of whatever she decided she wanted to make....but then I thought you all would post pics of eggs better than ours and I'll feel inadequate all over again. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
I think I would be having words with that teacher.
Surely it's better for our children to have their own ideas and thoughts rather than the parents thinking for them? I must admit my children are older but I use to get really cross when 'Little .....' won first prize for something it was obvious he had had no hand in doing, why don't they just give the prize to the parents!
One idea I thought was simple and effective when they were younger was based on a Aussie hat (the type to keep the flies away with corks hanging down? ) only this person had mini eggs hanging down instead. Probably more suitable for a boy than girls.Look after the pennies and the £££s will look after themselves0 -

Flippin big show off!
I LIKE that fish! :T (& the hat....but I do like the fish!) Well done.
We're copying someone's idea above and doing the 'eggs factor' . Daughter liked that idea.
So far we have a shoebox stage, a playdough and lolly stick microphone and red painted egg box seats.(We dont expect to win....:rotfl: )
If I'm feeling up for a laugh tomorrow, I'll post pics. Lol.0 -
Changed my mind...I like the frog now.
Just been upstairs to show daughter, she likes it too...she says 'it's very good and it's cute'. We might be ditching the eggs factor........

I love all the ides! I hate that a l;ot of teachers are ignoring the religious part of easter, i had a friend whose child was asked to make an easter garden for a competition at school, so he and his mum made a garden with a tomb (jesus' ) and an angel coming down from heaven and was told by the teacher that that was NOT what they wanted, they wanted a garden with bunnies and eggs and daffodils and he would have no chance of winning the comp!!!!!! How bad is that??????I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0

There was I thinking the teacher in our school was just being thoughtless. Do teachers not realise there is actually a religious connection?0 -
Well it's too late to make things any better now, lol...the deed is done for another year. Yay!
The 'spotlight'works and shines on 'Mi-SHELL'. (Michelle?
)
Daughter is happy so that's all that matters now although I think, she thinks, she's going to win. I've told her lots of other kids will have really good ones too and it doesn't matter if she wins or not, but her and I spent ages together doing this so she's a bit excitable about it. personally, I dont think we've got a cat in hell's chance but how do you tell that to an 8 year old? :rotfl:
And.......'The Nature Garden'. :rolleyes:0
