Meringues always come up trumps don't they?
I really ought to learn to make them at home. My mum tells me that they are really simple to make but very difficult to cook, as they have to cook at the slightest of heat otherwise they remain gooey on the inside and too crusty on the outside.
Anyone has ever tried this?

I remember many years ago my mum used to make a meringue thingie ... 2 large "cake" shaped meringues with chestnut puree sandwiched in the middle and a cream topping sprinkled with nuts. It was gorgeous. ;DWins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0

Sheel, I make meringues the day I make quiche! For six of us, I use six eggs (I keep hens so sometimes I have to be creative with eggs!).
Six egg whites make meringues.
Four egg yolks go into the quiches - I make two at a time. The other two go into mayonnaise. So it's quiche and salad followed by meringues with cream. Nope, dunno what cholesterol is.
Or lemon curd, sneaked into pastry, pastry glazes, proper custard, slipped into anything eggy like omelettes, gypsy toast, souffles, scrambled egg or addes to cakes.0 -
Thank you all for the ideas and recipes with meringues, and for the recipe on how to make them!
Egg yolks can also be used to make egg custard or ice cream, or creme caramel I think. I do not have recipes for those, I'm afraid, as I don't do much pudding cooking.

Try substituting choc chip cookies for ginger nuts and soak these in cheap sherry for a short time.Layer these together using cream and also cover in cream.Sprinkle on grated chocolate, keep in fridge for a couple of hours then indulge!Worry is like a rocking horse,it takes a lot of energy but gets you nowhere.0
