Emma, i dont think your other half is half as commited to moneysaving/paying off debts as you are. I think thats where your problems lie. I have much the same problem with MrJudi if its any consolation.

I am fortunate, MrJudi has a decent paid job and we have no debts. (Thats not to say we have everything though). I resent the fact though that we have two motors when only one of us drives. The van he uses for work, and the coupe is his toy - it only comes out once or twice a month - and that really hacks me off. Plus the fact he smokes - i dont, and he quits his job on a regular basis. I think he learned though from the last time he was out of work that my savings arent there to bail us out cause he didnt like his job.

We battle on.... I drop huge hints every so often, we row a bit too, but we keep plodding on.

    Big hugs to you xxx

could you do a joint budget (as you have) and rather than him getting the fags and then money to spend at weekend cause hes earned it(???in my opinion and only cause you asked - hes already spent his treats on car and fags) and give him an allowance for all the things that are unnecessary that he wants. As i can see it you are managing the budget and he is spending - give him his budget when its gone its gone, he may learn from this how hard you are working at keeping things on track

thanks..he would go mad if he read this!!!!!
we have decided to draw money out on a friday and split it, both puttin in for petrol, food and any necessities. today he had no fags and there was an almighty ruck this morning, i said no way can we draw any more money out (which we could) and then at lunchtime i thought ok i will give in (as i always do) and i bought 20 fags and then got myself two necklaces £2 ech, went home and said well thats a tenner gone, "what do you mean a tenner gone, these are only £4.40 " and i smugly said yep....you get four pounds so do i..what will you have to show for it at the end of the week??!!!

ok so i know not very money saving but maybe itll work???

i am just getting frustrated feeling all i ever do is come on here or go on online banking and its a waste of time
i have told him that when im studying hes taking the reigns

do you think its easier having every DD out one day? hes on weekly pay so dont know how itll work yet

could any1 see where i could save some £££???
dont say lose the fella cos despite his faults i do love him ..........all together now awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

LOL- Or you could have put your £4.40 into a bank account and told him you will be doing this until you have a nice amount you intend to spend just on yourself! I haven't got any answers as my husband is very similar-just hope someone comes along with some great tips!

    Mortgage-free Glee!
I think you need to keep a diary to see EXACTLY were your money goes. Your bit at the end of your budget...

'and i cant think where rest must go thats y i started the post! '

Understand your spending then you will beable to make savings. Its amazing waht can just disappear..... magaizines .....cups of coffee... sweeties .... crisps..bottle of water.. it all adds up. But unless you noted it, the fiver in purse has just vanished!!

That's exactly what I did (but I just let him think I'd spent 'my share') and IT WORKED!

They don't want to know when you try to show them what effect their smoking money has on the budget, but as soon as it starts doubling because of you, and you show them what effect THAT has, they soon get the message!

you may save some on the council tax once you become a student.

at the fear of repeating myself post on the old style board, they can save money where others cant. :T
