if i get a missed call form somone i know there will be a name and i will call them depending on how well i know them.. anyone else has the oppertunity to leave a message if its important -- if they dont they will ring again till they catch me. i would not call back random numbers just cause i missed a call

Why do people want to phone back in these cases? If I get a missed call and they don't leave a message, I'll ignore them.

Agree'd, if it is that important they will call back!

I have had 2 missed calls today, but the phone never actually rang . . . the number is 01502 573387 and googling it as an area code brings up places up north!

    Anyone had this before please?

I also had this today and as the number is a Lowestoft number I rung it back as I have relations there and thought it would be them!
I hope it won't cost me any money:mad:

    * It could be a mate that changed their number and forgot to tell you. I normally text them back saying "I'm not answering the phone unless you tell me who you are and what your question is". I then save the number as "Who" in my phone and refuse to answer them until I know who they are.

    * Sales calls often ring me when I'm abroad so I wont answer the phone whilst abroad and warn my mates to text only when I'm away.

i didnt bother to ring it back though mainly because a few weeks before i had several missed calls from other mobile numbers that did the same thing. like someone has mentioned, there were no charges for listening to these messeges, which seems really odd.
ive now put a block on all numbers not stored in my phone

    * My housing association likes to ring me on numbers starting with 07. If I don't answer then they wont leave a message and I can't ring them back. I cannot even text the number back.

In certain instances, there may no charge but this is an increasingly common scam of random calling and hanging up in order to be phoned back and make money from the " curious victim." I go along the lines of it's best not to call back anyone who doesn't leave a message or leave a text as that's generally what a normal person needing to reach you would do.

    * Agreed, my attitude is "if you don't bother to leave a message then I cant be bothered to ring you back."

Another mobile scam is where someone in the street stops you to ask if they can make a quick call for an "emergency" reason like they're locked out or need to speak with a family member and they take your phone and dial in a number which costs you a lot of money. In that instance, if you want to be helpful, agree but on the basis they tell you the number so you can dial it in and watch them carefully!

    * Thats what set minute contracts are for! ;) The number will only work if its a non premium number.

    So many (potential) scams, pah.

    * Agreed, but we can beat 'em!
