Missed call scam?

I had a missed call on my phone from a number I didn't recognise:

I called the number back incase it was business related, and got an automated response which I couldn't hear properly. I think it said something along the lines of "hi, I'm wynona (or wynerma, something that sounded like that) and I'm going to find the person who called you". I hung up at this point.

Has anyone had a call like this or similar to this before? I didn't trust it at all. I googled the number but found nothing, and when i put the number in to a mobile number network checker, it said the number was on the '24 Seven Telecom Ltd' network... which made it sound like even more of a scam.

I have had exactly the same thing in the past. I have no idea on whether its genuine, I listened to it all the way through and 'she' tries to connect u to one number, then says there's no response and tries the callers 'work' number, etc. I checked my mobile bill after the call and was never charged anything for listening to it, and never had any rebate from it. Very strange!

Why do people want to phone back in these cases? If I get a missed call and they don't leave a message, I'll ignore them.

i had a missed call from that number
i didnt bother to ring it back though mainly because a few weeks before i had several missed calls from other mobile numbers that did the same thing. like someone has mentioned, there were no charges for listening to these messeges, which seems really odd.
ive now put a block on all numbers not stored in my phone

In certain instances, there may no charge but this is an increasingly common scam of random calling and hanging up in order to be phoned back and make money from the " curious victim." I go along the lines of it's best not to call back anyone who doesn't leave a message or leave a text as that's generally what a normal person needing to reach you would do.

Another mobile scam is where someone in the street stops you to ask if they can make a quick call for an "emergency" reason like they're locked out or need to speak with a family member and they take your phone and dial in a number which costs you a lot of money. In that instance, if you want to be helpful, agree but on the basis they tell you the number so you can dial it in and watch them carefully!

So many (potential) scams, pah.

I have had 2 missed calls today, but the phone never actually rang . . . the number is 01502 573387 and googling it as an area code brings up places up north!

Anyone had this before please?

I actually had someone PM me saying how they liked my signature and how they now took every single photograph they could.............they assumed it related to photographs (shots)

I'm glad there's at least one person here who knows who Wayne Gretzky is!!
