debt_free_me wrote: »Hi Oasis. How did you find out what things there were a gap for? I read a little while ago you could buy clothes in the sale that are in fashion or sought after, then when they are pretty much not being sold anymore, you could sell them on Ebay? As you have alot of experience, do you think this could work? I also thought that I could sell alot of my summer type clothes now, before all the summer stuff comes into the shops, though I know they tend to sell stuff year round now?
A lot of it is hit and miss on where there is a gap. The tooth whitening, Mrs Santa Claus costumes from Sept / Oct onwards, buy them from August. Elmos, Wiis, Bulk buys and then split individually. Also the poundshop have some specials on now and again that sell well.
Clothes from sales work if you stick to classic lines, as sales are normally made up from that season's stock, ie. A New Year sale will have Winter clothes in it, not really any good if you try to sell them March onwards.
Next for kids is a great one to buy, 50% off and many styles will still be popular the following season. Buy Dec / Jan Sales coats, jeans, jumpers, then list from Sept / Oct onwards.
With regards to your own summer clothes, yes start listing them soon, as remember from May onwards, people start going on summer hols too, and will be looking to pick up some holiday clothes. You will get more people looking at a mini skirt, short sleeve tops, clubbing tops in the summer, and more jeans / jumpers in the winter.
Do remember though officially if you buy anything to sell on and make a profit , you should be paying Tax NI. There are some way around this with clothing, but if you say bought 100 Mrs Santa Claus, and then sold them one after another, IR would say that's a business, nothing stopping you though to set up 20 eBay account and sell 5 on each though!Financial Aims for 2012:

Thanks Oasis. I would only sell a few bits here and there, I wouldn't make a business out of it, just a few bits to make extra cash.

I had to come and share this with you, my MAD ebay bunch! All 23 of the items I had listed sold today - for a total of £194!!I know, I can't believe it either! One woman's rubbish really is another man's treasure. It's unbelievable what people will buy.
So, that takes my total towards my holiday up to £628. And there's still nine months to go, so I'm positive.
Right.. got to raid my junk box to get some more stuff on asap. Hurrah! Well done to everyone else too. :TOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 5500
