UKOnline £9.99 Broadband

Thanks to MSE for pointing me in the direction of UKOnline. After years of painfully slow Dialup (improved a little by Onspeed) I am now on 512k Broadband, at no additional cost (compared with my previous ISP).
Although I had to wait some weeks patiently checking the UKOnline site for available capacity on their network, it took a reasonable 18 days from the date I was able to sign up until the service was activated, just two days later than they predicted.
The Voyager 105 Modem was £10 from eBay, and was easy to install, however I did have to call the helpdesk to get the DNS settings which don't appear to be on their website, or in any of their emails, a strange oversight.
Although I've only had the service for one day so far, I would suggest it's well worth considering if you are persevering on dialup.

The problem is UKOnline at £9.99 is not available on many exchanges. Another alternative is e7even, lots of recommendations on these pages (but not mentioned by Martin!!!). £10 a month and available through every broadband enabled BT exchange. Special offer of free hardware and free upgrade to 1Mbps until end of August. Pay for 24 months upfront and get free connection too.0

E7 looks very good, but I wasn't in a position to pay months upfront. The advantage of UKOnline for me was the very low startup cost, as well as the low monthly subscription.0
