    Hi

Don't say anything else to them; if they do ask just say she hasn't moved in yet as you didn't feel it was worth the extra ridiculous credit check charge and so you will be moving in together in the next house.

Tedious LA money making scam; straight out of your wallet and into their Christmas bonus fund.

Absolutely no way would I pay that. The LA are just out to make themselves a bit of easy cash. £120 for a credit check that costs them probably no more than £20. That';s ridiculous.

Why would they need to credit check her unless she was going to be added to the tenancy agreement, which would be pointless as you are going to be leaving in 5 weeks anyway. Before you know it, they will insist on a fee for drawing up a new agreement, and may even insist it is for another 6 months.

Her staying there for that length of time may be in violation of the agreement, but what are they going to do - evict you? You are leaving anyway. If it were for several months, I would say then yes, you should go through with it, but it's not, it's for 5 weeks.

I would tell them nothing more and if they ask, tell them she isn't moving for another month so there is nothing to worry about. I doubt the LA are going to stake out your house to check.

I agree, just keep schtum, if they accuse her of moving in, ask them how they know, then threaten to sue them for harrassment. It's five weeks, not three months.
"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.

My wife was not even on some agreements. She does not have to be on the agreement unless she needs to be on agreement to prove that she lives with you. Otherwise you can add people to LA letting know who will live with you. Then no credit check required, but landlord might be against two people - check. It was case with my agreement, then we asked to have agreement for two names and she had to provide evidence of income and credit check was made.
Have you got something to share - Do it.
When you don't know - Ask.

I was really sorry I couldn't give legal advice on this ... and also I didn't want to look like i was a big law breaker :D
but now I'm glad to see many new posts that don't worry about being more open on the subject :rotfl:

thanks to lot to everyone who took their time to give their opinion.
i'm going to b mum for another few weeks and try not to walk in front of the LA office (they r approx 14-15 miles other side of the town and i never go there anyway)
i feel really stupid to even enquire with the LA in the first place. may be i like to be straight with things. didnt think that will shave a few pounds of my savings
  • Ring the LA office and say she is not moving in because of there high fees and your wife is setting up your new home whilst living with family.

If it says in the contract you must inform them immediatly then they have your deposit and could take money from it. Don't give the LA any details at all of your wife and they would not be able to say that they have done the checks.
Think before you do something stupid, don't park 2 cars on the drive etc.
Lets get this straight. Say my house is worth £100K, it drops £20K and I complain but I should not complain when I actually pay £200K via a mortgage:rolleyes:

the LA cannot put her onto the agreement until your present agreement is finished in a very short time - and they will then need to issue a brand new tenancy for the two of you - stuff 'em is my response !!

you cannot stop tenants having friends and family to stay - look up the OFT unfair terms and conditions of contract - see if there is anything in there about "visitor"
