Missing WLAN?

Hi, have you tried changing the channel your wireless router broadcasts on in the router settings page? Maybe one of your neighbours has installed something that is blocking your signal. I was quite sceptical before I tried that changing the channel would make a missing network show up but it did!!!

Channel number has got nothing to do with ethernet. The fact your ethernet works doesn't mean you aren't getting interference from other networks and need to change the channel number."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

ive got the same problem.
ive now purchased two wireless adapters, both of which have stopped working!!! The green light comes on but just will not connect. Connects fine with ethernet cable, so no idea what the problem is!!! looks like 60 quid wasted!!
this has happened on two different computers with both wireless adapters.
pcs recognise them, the lights come on, sometimes the connection shows up but still they wont connect.
Are you definately putting the WPA network key in correctly? In my job I come across a lot of people who havent realised that the key is case sensitive. Once I have talked them through deleting all the connections they have made by mistake, then entering the key exactly as you see it, 9 out of 10 get connected straight away.
MBM x (if your network doesnt show up, try changing the channel cos like superscraper says, ethernet doesnt use the channel, its only your wireless signal.)

hi
its a netgear router, and it worked fine one day then just wouldnt connect the next. How do I do a system restore? Could I take it back to say Saturday when it was working?

type system restore into the search boxEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

I tried to do a system restore twice using the last two points, but it failed on both. When I try to connect to a network the error which comes up says
'This computer does not have a wireless adapter installed and configured' 'install wireless network hardware and verify that correct drivers are loaded'
any ideas??Sealed Pot no 2011

I've just googled the specs of your laptop & it says it comes with a "Broadcom 802.11a/b/bg" wireless card installed.
I suspect that your driver for this may be corrupt. Try right clicking "My Computer" , then click Properties & select Hardware, then click on Device Manager, scroll down to Network adaptors...click on the "+" symbol that should be beside this & hopefully it'll be listed there! If it is, double click on it & try "Troubleshoot" which might help you to get it back up & running.
You'll have to have your ethernet plugged in as it may have to search the Net to 'update the drivers' of this wireless card.
Hope this works!

thanks Jockthearab.
I tried this and the only thing it shows under Device Manager is nvidia nforce networking controller.
Should something else be there? If so, where can it have gone??Sealed Pot no 2011

Hmmmm, sadly I'm no PC expert, just that I've spent the last 2 days
reformating my daughters Desktop PC, reinstalling XP & encountered various problems (one being with the wireless card I'd installed) so I've learnt as I've gone along.
Anyways, again I googled "Compaq presario v6000 + wireless".

This was at the top of the page & didn't sound too good. Motherboard problems.
However, this was at the bottom of page 1:

Click on the link within that one for possibly better news!
Hope that helps,
