We always have a packet of long life bacon brunch in the cupboard .
Sainsburys do one and Aldi's is the cheapest @ 79p (think theirs is called pan fried potatoes) and it's contains potato slices, onion and ham and you can mix this with whatever else you have in your cupboard, tin of corn beef for corn beef hash of sorts, tin of tuna, or put a tin of peas or sweetcorn or tin of beans in to eek it out, anything really. It's quite filling and works out a cheap meal for end of the month ;)

OOOhh - is that the one in the foil packet? Used to get that aaaages ago. They still do it? It ws worth starting the thread for that alone. Thanks!!!!

Or you could always be very old style (I used to eat these in the 70's) and get a packet or two of Vesta ready meals. They only do a couple of varieties now, Chicken Chow Mein I think, and a beefy one. They have the rice, noodles etc. in the pack, so all you need is oil for frying the crispy noodles in the beef one.

Oh, just remembered I think they still do paella as well, which was nice if a bit salty.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Not in my cupboard, if I see this in the shops I have to buy it and then it doesn't last more than a day! (and most of that day is spent planning when I'm going to eat it)

If eggs are back in, here's another one:

Mix 4 egg yolks with a tin of tuna (drained). Whip up the whites with a pinch of salt till firm. In a little oil, cook a chopped onion and a chopped clove of garlic. Add this to the tuna-egg yolk mixture and also stir in a tablespoon of curry powder and 3 tablespoons of milk, cream or yoghurt. Blend 2 tablespoons of corn starch with 100 ml milk, and add to the preparation. Next fold in the beaten egg whites.

Transfer to a tart or quiche tin/dish, sprinkle with grated cheese, bake at 180° for about 30 mins. Can be served warm, at room temperature or cold.

This serves 4 easily. If it were just me, my ultimate quick stand-by meal is spaghetti with olive oil, garlic and chili - I could eat that almost every day! Shame OH doesn't like it - he finds this a bit too basic.

    ok no pasta or rice
    how about
    1) 'no- jacket required jacket spuds - usual range of topping for jackets but on Smash
2)snack wise - add a good tablespoon of Mayo to a tin of sweetcorn -drain any excess water 1st but keep to add if mayo mix to dry & sugar/salt to taste - varies a lot by brand. Its gorgeous & surprisingly filling (also good with 1)
    3) bulk out couscous with lots of strong flavour stuff from cupboards such as tinned toms & garlic or OXO & garlic
4)eggy bread - also known a gypsy/french toast - assuming eggs of course
    5) no name for this but ol recipe you could adapt- meat (tinned in this case meat or fish) curried & topped with breadcrumbs like a savory crumble
I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I Know

    Hi there,
    I love this as a stand-by meal...
Make up a sachet of sage and onion stuffing and allow to cool. Add equal quantities of cooked, drained and cooled red lentils. Mix together. You can add an egg at this point too if you have one but fine without.
Shape into burgers and dip in flour or flour/egg/breadcrumbs and fry off. Serve in bread rolls made with your BM!

This will make enough burgers for 8 hungry people! or you could freeze half of the batch before shaping into burgers. Freezes well and actually improves if frozen.
    REALLY tasty veggie burgers.

I have just bought 2 pkts of stuffing mix (2 for £1 at Asda) so that I can try this recipe out next week! Many thanks!

A mate of mine serves her kids (and her eldest serves him self quite often)

tinned meat balls and value noodles.
Cook the noodles heat meat balls up put the noodles in a bowl (or plate if not using sauce)and pop meat balls on top, I am unsure whether the sauce id used to though as i've never tried.

and here is the story how I ddiscovered this when I went shopping with him and he said he'd bough meat balls already that week and he had to buy more as his eldest made good meal of them (i'm thinking how many tins a week do they buy!!), he then picked up a couple a pckets of noodles, he then held a packet of noodles and a tin of meat balls and said look this and this together and you got a meal for less than a quid!!!!! I just looked and thoughtweres the veggies lol. But good for a meal if you haven't owt in
