Should I be able to send games, ringtones etc via infra red to a Nokia 6610i?
Hi
I have just received my refurbished Nokia 6610i from O2 bought via another thread on this great site.
I am really pleased with it except I can't seem to be able to send any new games, ringtones or pictures to it via the infrared.
I know the infrared from my pc is working fine as I can send ringtones and games to my son's Sony Ericsson K500i with no problems whatsoever.
I have also tried sending photos from his phone to the Nokia and it doesn't work either.
My friend has a Samsung E700 and has been told by Samsung that you can only send "data" via the infrared on her phone.
Does anybody know if this is the case with the Nokia 6610i also or is it a fault with the phone?
Any help would be much appreciated.

I've never been able to do it with my old nokia 3200 or 6610. The most I have evey been able to send via infrared is phone numbers. But I haven't put much time or effort into trying though0

Thanks for letting me know kai666.
I was hoping it would work.
I might try getting a data cable but not having used one before I would hate to fork out for one only to find the phone won't accept any information that way either.0 -
I had my 6100 working to recieve via I/R, so would have thought it would work ... with the right softwareAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0

There should be no reason why it shouldn't work...have you installed Nokia Data Suite?
or look here for a very good third party software http://www.logomanager.co.uk/php/products.php?id=51Welcome, rogerramjet.

Thanks Roger.
I hadn't downloadad Nokia's Data Suite as I have Windows 98SE and it only offered 2000 or XP.
I must admit I didn't actually think about having do download software as with my sons K500i you just sent the file via infrared - you didn't need any software.
I'll try the free trial of the link you gave me and let you know how I get on.0 -
the 6610i only allows phone data transfer, not rign tones et.c (dont ask me why, ask the * at nokia!)0

Hi all
Thanks all for your help.
I thought I would update you with how I am getting on with my 6610i. I bought a data cable which seems to work relatively well.
To check that the cable would work, I decided to install the Nokia PC Suite (Version 6.6 as it is on XP ) on my works computer after buying it at lunchtime. It let me download a game to the "Applications" section of the phone (wouldn't let me put it into the games section) and it seemed to work fine. (Unfortunately it isn't really feasible for me to do this on a regular basis).
When I came home, as I have Windows 98SE (and after some surfing of the net) I downloaded Nokia's PC Suite Version 5.8 which is compatible with my operating system.
The problem I have now is I can't "run" the PC Suite or any of the applications such as "Application Installer" "Audio Manger" or "Image Converter". All of these applications give the error message "Control" causes a protection fault in "user.exe".
I can however run Nokia's Phone Browser which lets me look at what is on my PC and phone and copy and paste things this way to the "gallery". It has let me put some new ringtones and photos onto the phone with no problems, however when I try to put games on they upload okay but when I try to play them on the phone they all say "file format not supported" bit they are .jar files the same as the one I uploaded to the "applications" section at work.
I am not sure why this is happening but other than using my work's PC every time my son wants to add a game can anybody give me any idea what options I have now and also any ideas why the suite and appications keep causing protection faults??
(Hope this all makes sense)0
