Fantastic thinking OP. Very intelligent move in my opinion. You're my hero.

But seriously, I'd love to be able to buy my own place but, even if I had enough money, I'd rent for a few years and see what happens in the property market. Save up a deposit and then take on a smaller mortgage: sounds like a plan to me

I sold last year after a year's wait... panicking as I could see "the writing on the wall" and hoped buyers weren't seeing the same.
I am now renting, tiny (cheap) bedsit. Waiting.
I expect to be waiting for 3-4 years.
I will use this time to find out who I am and what I want.
Now I am renting, sat here with the 2nd tranche of The Great Storm of 2008 crashing in from the West .... I am SO grateful I don't have to worry the roof's flying off, don't have to check in the morning for slates and worry how to deal with it, the gate won't be wrenched off it's anchors (like a previous storm), the drains won't block/flood.
It's bloomin' marvellous. I can sit here all relaxed, on the Internet, with chocolate instead.
What a weirdo you really are.0 -
