HI
looking for a dvd/video combi
had a look around the shops over the wkend, but most the cheaper ones (£70-100)
only had dvd players on them.
Does anyone know of one that will burn dvd discs as well ,,,,or am i better buying a dvd burner and plugging it into my current video player
???
£100 is near my maximum price as well.

The cheapest I could find is £69.97 at Argos but it does not burn dvd disk i think.0

Panasonic does a good DVD/VCR combi at £249.99 from Argos EZ47VEBS(i've got one and it's excellent!), with plenty of good features (with a VCR and DVD recorder in one)AND it's got Freeview built-in for the switchover, there is also a Samsung Freeview DVD/VCR combi at £199.99 from Argos but it's not quite as good as the Panny for pic/sound quality with excessive VHS grain and noise and pixellation on DVD and the HiFi VHS stereo sound performance is flat. The panny offers a good pleasing (and nice sharp) VHS picture and a good DVD recording/playback performance and superb HiFi VHS stereo sound from terrestrial NICAM/Freeview recordings.0

Those philips ones DON'T have freeview built in, this IS essential for the digital switchover(if it's not already in your area)! I would rather have the panasonic with freeview built in then I don't have to upgrade the unit with a set-top box come switchover. The Panasonic although it costs more is a better bet.0

Don't exaggerate.....Freeview boxes are cheap. 20 pounds or less.
Of course the Panasonic is the best option, but the OP's stated budget is 100 pounds.£100 is near my maximum price as well.
So, the best compromise would be to buy a Freeview DVD recorder and attach the existing VCR.0 -
The Panasonic unit offers an integrated neat all in one solution of DVD recorder and VHS VCR and freeview without the spaghetti of SCART leads/aerial leads etc at the back of the TV/home cinema system that a separates system would cause etc and no stack of boxes ie VCR/set-top box/DVD recorder etc stuck on top of each other hogging the cabinet/tv stand causing poor ventilation problems. Separates are messy and a headache;the integrated approach is neater, NO CABLE SPAGHETTI,NO STACK OF BOXES, AND NO MULTIPLE PROBLEMS.0
-
That may well be....but you are ignoring the budget constraints. Maybe you can donate the extra amount to the OP?0
-
Integrated units that combine the Freeview/DVD recorder/VHS video recorder all-in-one are a better solution;I would rather spend more on an all-in-one unit and take away the hassle separate units would give.0

 We know that you would.0

Also the Panasonic unit is a BEST BUY in many home cinema mags AND which? likes it too;what with it's great performance and many features it deserves a place in ANY home...you know where you are with Panasonic! Anyway I've PM'd shaun 40400 and told him to get it!
Also it isn't good to have separate DVD/Freeview/VCR units stacked on top of one another even to save money because;
(a)safety
(b)equipment performance
(c)risk of fire/overheating
(d)risk of breakdown/malfunctioning due to excessive temperature operation with units in close proximity to each other,
IN SHORT GIVE EM SOME BREATHING SPACE!0
