Can I drill uPVC door?

Mutton Geoff, As I said peviously, our chain doesn't fit with screws and uses the integral strength of the door. Its a great idea to keep the door locked, but unless you're Derren Brown, how are you supposed to know who's there without opening it? www.upvcdoorchain.com. It sells for under £10.00 and can be fitted by yourself to the door in seconds. There is no safer, more cost effective option when you own a upvc door. This chain does not affect your door guarantee.0

stububs, I wasn't referring to your product, but to the typical cheap and nasty chain which I thought of when the OP said they just had one lying around that was meant for another door.Signature on holiday for two weeks0

when i first looked on your site there was no picture of this safety chain the link you have put above there is now a picture .i take it the chain fastens to the frame or wall and the chain holder for want of a better word clips over the rebate where the panel fits can i ask apart from this what holds the reciever on the door .the reason i ask is some older doors which use wedge gasket or non coextruded gasket can come out obviously this would mean there was no compression on your receiver. And also what holds it parralel on the door sash ie does could it not move when door was shutMutton Geoff, As I said peviously, our chain doesn't fit with screws and uses the integral strength of the door. Hev,
just get the spyhole fitted as suggested in post 3.
If you get nervous during the day as you say in post 1 then this option enables you to keep the door fully locked until you decide whether or not you trust the person enough to let them in.0 -

The return on the back of the "receiver" is indeed fitted behind edge panel and the rubber of the gasket actually holds it in place sufficiently to avoid it falling out when the door is closed. If the chain was forced, it works by using the strongest part of the door design against itself. With older gaskets, we supply a small self adhesive pad that can fit under the receiver to avoid any movement. We also have simple fitting photos on the site which hopefully should be self explanatory.0 -
you will not benifit by chain on upvc, ask supplier to install doors with built in door guard, it's built into the door with a small thumb knob which activates a ber within the door so when you open it, it hooks the bar and you can only open the door around 4", its simple and effective0

Great suggestion, obviously its a much better way of protecting your property than fitting a chain for £10. Obvious down side is you would need to spend £400+ on a new door, not really ideal. Every police force, trading standars office, crimestoppers and eighbourhood watch scheme strongly recommends a variation of "Stop, chain, check". Unfortunately, for a huge majority of reponsible householders who have fitted upvc doors, this simply is not possible. The chain shown on "upvcdoorchain.com" has been recommended by Architectural Liason officers and is the only way to fit a chain to a upvc door.0
