Can I drill uPVC door?

I think the front door is uPVC - it came with the double glazing. I want to put a door chain on as I am alone at home all day and sometimes I get a little nervous. Is it okay to drill - don't think the screws are that deep.
If it isn't okay to drill, what are my alternatives? Also, do I need a type of drill bit and is there anything that I should really be watching for?

(I think I am making my DH nervous)

You can drill it but I don't think I would.
If you've had the DG installed yourself, you could get in touch with the suppliers as sometimes you can invalidate your guarantee if you do anything to the door yourself.
When you say you feel nervous, is it about someone getting in? If that's locking systems on modern doors are usually very good.
If you're worried about answering the door, then I wouldn't unless you expecting someone.0 -
A chain won't add any more security than the multipoint lock already provides, if you prefer to see who's outside before you open the door you could ask your supplier to fit a spyhole, 2 minute job.0

Thank you for your advice. All I can say is, thank goodness for MSE and you lovely people, because I have absolutely no idea.
I will abandon this one.
I am quite capable of leaning out of a window rather than answering the floor - I don't get embarrassed easilyIt's one of those long stories full of mights and coulds and what ifs.
I always keep the door locked anyway, and I can usually see who it is, so really I don't need it.The chain was originally bought for the old door, and sat there and sat there waiting for DH (who is really lovely) to fit it, but eventually we had to get the windows/doors replaced before they just fell out on their own. I'm trying to learn how to get stuff done and catch up with everything, and I'm not even sure the chain fits anymore...

A clever invention, simple ideas are the best.
You might want to improve your web site though, the info on the solution page, should be the first thing you see and scrap the pointless Flash intro.0 -
I agree with Vibrant, considering you only appear to have the one product.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
Interesting product.
My problem is I have a 2 year old and another younger sprog. We have a UPVC front door and the handle is same height as all other door handles and she is getting to the point where she loves opening and closing doors and dont want her opening this one.
Any Suggestions?
Door is standard UPVC door with multi point locks. The main lock to open it is located at waist height next to door handle.
I presume anyone with PVC doors and kids must have this problem but not aware of any solutions.

With this UPVC door chain fitted, she won't be able to open the door - isnt that what you want?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Door chains mostly offer a false sense of security. Once the door is opened even a child could push/pull hard enough to snap the typical chain or at least pull the piddly little screws out of the door. Screws into PVC would be even weaker.
As others say, keep the door locked/closed, the locking mechanism is much stronger than the usual add on "security" devices.Signature on holiday for two weeks0 -
