well done babylon free that is great!! i agree pastures once mine is saved it ceases to exist and I feel 'skint' again :D

Scary though, my contract on my job runs out at the end of September and I have no new job to go to! So I don't know how much will be getting saved from thenuntil I get a new job!!

I have an OH who has just started earning enough to have a bit extra to spend on luxuries.....and whereas I'd happily have him saving the extra for the house..he's not interested...its v frustrating and I feel like an immense nag!!

I know all about this one! DH and I have reached an agree ment on this. The first £1k to go away i taken as read. Its done, dusted and he sees the reason in it. With the rest he would rather we lived a little more. I think we live quite enough with the pets etc, so we split anything left over at the end of the month, hal to savings, half to have 'fun with' we go on a 'proper' date each month, which can be a meal out (when its his choice) or the cinema, or when its my choice its usually a walk somewhere special, or something else cheap :o that way there is more left over for the savings pile, and anything we do together is great for me!

its a good one! we have now agreed to save half of the estimated mortgage money each month and the rest is left for whatever we want. its a good compromise..and a far cry from when I first met him 4 years ago....he was v frivolous with money, he has now wiped all his debts and is saving for the first time in his life (a somewhat alien concept)... Its quite tough to save the mortgage money alone, never mind all the bills we would have to pay if we had a house, but its giving us a good idea of how much money we won't have if we got a house!!

Got my savings standing orders going in tomorrow, a decent amount of quidco money to come in during the first week of the month, credit card cashback to be credited in next couple of days, interest to be paid on all my accounts tomorrow, and when all that lot has landed in my accounts I'll then 'round up' to the nearest £50 (odd 'pounds and pence' numbers bother me)... when all that's done I'll post an update :rotfl:

I've been asked to knock up a website for someone too which is great news, should be an extra £300-500 for my savings depending on the specification :) They don't seem to be in any hurry though

Good going on the ISAs jamtart :money:

Oops, I never did report back!

I've now saved 85% of my target amount for 2008, and should meet my target in September all being well :D There'll be another three months to go from there, so I think I may increase my target amount at that point to help keep myself disciplined :)

I'm currently sat at about 8.9% of the asking price of the cheapest suitable house in my area. This is actually closer to 5.8% of what I expect to pay for the kind of house I'm after (I won't be plumping for the smallest and cheapest or the dodgiest location!) I figure my revised target for 2008 might be 10% of 'my kind of house'. It's a big ask though!!

Will be back with another update at the start of August. How is everyone else getting on? :)

    Well done Mr DT!

OK, well, my petrol consumption is massively down this month. Its a huge relief, but my car is making some sicky noises so I have to clean it out and get it in the garage week after next I'm guessing that may have some very bad effect on svaings!

also, have been offered to stay at the cut price summer livery for winter in return for going haves in patching up a stable. A good offer and one we may well take, but its a sacrifice for other reasons, but money saving ones too.
  • All going to plan here :)
  • Hello! I'd like to be a member of the saving for a deposit club! I'm 24, and I've managed to save £10k so far. I'm single and have no possible OH on the horizon currently! I earn £21k, and I'm hoping to be able to save between £500 and £600 p month. I find debt a bit frightening, so I am jut trying to save as much as possible. My car is a Y reg so Im thinking that will need replacing over the next few years and I'll buy one out of the money Ive saved. No debt except a graduate overdraft.

Dream: My own little cottage in the country! Ive seen some I like for around £140K. I've no idea if my dream is attainable or not, but I'm gonna save up anyway!
    Current mortgage 133k
    Purchase price 171k
    Fixed deal ends sept 2019
    Current repayments 640pm
    Savings approx 60k
