Download limts

I have just signed up with Madasafish at 17.99 but with a 5mg download limit, I was previously on BT at 24.99 with unlimited download.
I have read recently that 5mg download is equivalent to 62 hours of surfing time a week.
What I want to know is how do they record your downloads?
I ususally keep broadband connected all day for ease - will this count towards it?
What about opening a web page and then minimizing it (to come back to later) - does this count?
Or is it only when the page is open on the screen?
Sorry it probably seems like a lot of dapsy questions but I need to know.
Thanks

1) it doesn't matter (much) if you are connected all of the time it only measures what you download
2) 5Mb should give you an awful lot of standard browsing
3) what really eats up the bytes is video and on line gaming
4) many ISPs dont count usuage during the night - if you have a lot of big downloads then get a program to do it then
5) most ISPs let you check how much you have used on their website - alternatively download DUmeter
6) remember that uploads are usually counted too
7) if you return to a page it shouldn't count as it should still be in your PCs cache
8) remember that all PCs connected countTANSTAAFL !0 -
You can check your usage by logging into "My Account" from the homepage and clicking on "Monthly Usage" in the left menu. Madasafish will send you an e-mail if you are approaching the 5GB usage allowance. I've been impressed with the service that I've gotten with them and their sister company freenetname.0

I assume you mean 5 Gigabyte (gb) and not mg or mb.
5gb is probably not that bad as long as you don't download large files as mentioned earlier or do online gaming....however, if you do a lot of both then 5gb can be gone in a day if not sooner.Welcome, rogerramjet.

Hi - I changed from BT to madasafish a couple of months ago and was a little worried about the download limits. So far I've not managed to even use 1GB per month - and that includes downloading albums off i-tunes, downloading programs like firefox, browsing every day, and my kids watching music videos. I have been very impressed with them so far and its faster and loads cheaper than BT.

Well according to Madasafish its 125 hours a week (17.86 hours a day!)Eager_Elephant wrote:...I have read recently that 5mg download is equivalent to 62 hours of surfing time a week....
Taken from Madasafish's website:
For the majority of users, 5GB a month is more than enough. The table below displays a range of typical weekly online activities that you could undertake.
General web browsing 125 hours a week
Sending/receiving photos (by e-mail) 125 per week
Downloading MP3s 75 per week
Sending/receiving e-mails (no attachments) 1000 per week
Watching videos 75 minutes per week
Online gaming 5 hours per week
TOTAL 5GB / month
