Hehe I was thinking the jumping-for-joy smiley was a little cold for an inheritance too0 -
Even if you close down the card - a CPA will still go through and it will be re-opened!0

The quickest way is to report your card lost - don't tell them about the CPA, just pretend you've lost your card. You'll have your current one stopped and a new one issued.
doesn't work - a CPA will transfer to the new card...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
the jumping-for-joy smiley was in relation to being debt-free ... and has nothing to do with my original question.
Thanks for your replies - as I say, I'm waiting to hear back from the credit card co to see if I can reclaim the money as I haven't heard back from highstreetmax yet.LBM 1: May 06 - £16,900  . LBM 2: Jan 08 -£29,500

There's also an address on the contact us section. If the worst comes to the worst and they completely ignore you then you could send a recorded letter to that address and keep the proof of postage and a copy of the letter etc to help with any dispute raised with the credit card company.
Surely if you send such a letter to the organisation concerned, then you are then entitled to report any future amount taken to the credit card company as a fraudulent transaction ?I blame Blair0 -
Yes, that's what the credit card co said. I've also rung them to try and cancel - it's a totally automated system so we'll see if it works. It seems there are a lot of companies under the umbrella of "high street max" and they are all managing to get lots of money out of people who don't realise it!LBM 1: May 06 - £16,900  . Not in my experience - this worked for me on a couple of occasions where a subscription had stopped bu the company wouldn't stop taking the payments. AFAIK if it's reported lost there's a hot marker placed on it and all future transactions are declined.
I may be wrong but it's worked for me on a couple of occasions0 -
When I have had cards cancelled a few times over the years because of cc fraud, organisations to whom I do pay a monthly subscription have e-mailed me to say that I need to set up a new payment method because they have been unable to collect from may credit card. Presumably that's because they don't have the number of the replacement card, and the credit card issuer does not automatically beam their request for payment to the new card number.
Maybe the policy varies among credit card companies ? But in my view, if a card is cancelled then all bets should be off, and the cc company should not accept any requests for payment which are not specifically authorised by the customer. If they are in fact doing that, then I reckon it's an issue to draw to the attention of the FSA as a malpractice which should be stopped.I blame Blair0
