I have just written an essay for my canine psychology course about the effects of diet on health and behaviour and I personally would stay away from cheap food, they use por quality ingriedients with lots of additives, colour, preservatives and fillers which can contribute to a multitude of problems in the future - you would be better off giving your dog leftovers whenever you can rather than poor quality food.

my dog has mild arthritis and believe that because he wasn't given the best start in life with his diet (he was 3 when we got him), that this has contributed to his condition.

As I said before, you wouldnt be prepared to feed your children on "value" foods - you even said you make them from scratch - then don't your animals deserve the same attention?

Yes I think some supermarket on-brand foods are just re-branded but the "value" ranges are not. They are the lowest of the low

We use the standard Tesco complete dried for our current JR cross. Our last but one dog was a Lab cross with a very jippy tummy and the Lidl own brand dried complete was the one that suited her best.

This has come up time and time again, cheap dog food is not always the cheapest option.
