Tesco Value dog and cat food?

I'm sure this has been asked before but I cant get anything to come up when I search!
I'm looking at reducing the cost of cat and dog food and wondering what Tesco Value is like and how it compares to Tesco own brand cat and dog food. I'm looking at the dried complete food for both.
Thanks in advance

I usually have a trolley load of value stuff for me and premium brand food for the moggies - they have trained me well:rotfl: .
I have only tried (well not presonally, my cats have;) ) the canned Tesco Value cat food and that was not well received at all!
The other day I went to Asda and they had a special offer on their pouches of cat food - 4 for £1 - Feline Fayre (usual price is 28p each).
I bought some of the fish varieties and was really surprised when I opened them up - the fish pieces looked really good and the jelly was firm and smelt really quite yummy (no, really!). They reminded me of the HiLife pouches that I buy at twice the price. Anyway the cats enjoyed the new offering and I'm saving money as well so I'm really pleased.
Asda does do own brand dried food as well and they do seem cheaper than Tesco so if you have one local to you it may be worth a trip.

do you have a morrisons by you there own brand "my cat" £3 for 4kg is very good value and my cats are very happy with it and sounds daft but it looks alot better and healthier.

I appreciate this is a money saving site, but I would never purchase "value" dog food. The ingredients are very poor. I don't think anyone would buy "value" baby food so why would anyone want to feed it to their pets?
Animals still need a good balanced diet to maintain health and well-being and that's not gonna happen with "value" food0 -
i always buy food from home bargains my cats got quite the taste for the squid cat food at 25p a tin (its aboutn 59p in tesco i think)

I wouldnt buy value baby food no, because I make all baby food from scratch
Quite often value foods are the same as the store brand but in plain packaging, and Im sure thats the same with the pet food. My cats have a balanced diet, they have pouches of meat in the morning and then free access to a complete biscuit through the day and night. My dog has one meal a day in the morning. I do vary what she has from time to time, but it would be good to know that if I was ever stuck for money then she could have this for a few days. Shes currently on Webbox dried and I have just bought a box of sainsbury own brand.0 -
Value dry dog food gave my late Retriever a very dodgy stomach - I would avoid!!0

I have just written an essay for my canine psychology course about the effects of diet on health and behaviour and I personally would stay away from cheap food, they use por quality ingriedients with lots of additives, colour, preservatives and fillers which can contribute to a multitude of problems in the future - you would be better off giving your dog leftovers whenever you can rather than poor quality food.
I am on a budget too and have 2 large breed dogs (Doberman & Golden R) but I have put them on a higher quality diet with no artificial ingriedinets as the lower quality diet gave them wind, loose stools, dry coat, & itchy skin...also they became quiet hyper due to all the added colourings etc...
I do also give them left over meat, rice, veg, potatoes & fruit whenever I can and their health has greatly improved (not to mention their behaviour! lol)
Even though it is more expensive you dont need to feed so much and you should not get so many vet bills due to poor health in the future0 -
Must add that Tesco's own brand seemed to suit him OK, just not the value.0
