At least you are playing them at their own game now! Make them sweat a bit for their money I say. When we were viewing, most of the time the vendor showed us round - i dont understand what the EA has to do to earn their money. It seems they think bull S***ing and putting a picture in the window is just about it!0

Last saturday we went viewing - the EA refused to give us a lift to the various places we were seeing under the pretence that she didnt have insurance to carry passengers.[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Rise like Lions after slumber

Haha! One of the vendors last sat kept telling us about the kids who kept taking potshots with their airguns at the windows on his shed.... much to the EA's chagrin![FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Rise like Lions after slumber

Dreamlife 99, just because the EA knows what you can spend, doesn't mean you have to spend that amount. Take control, set yourself a figure that you want to spend and stick to it. It could well be an interesting & steep learning curve for you, but stick to your guns.Running_Horse wrote: »Go back to your original offer and insist the agent pass it on.
The vendor may have instructed the EA not to accept offers below a certain figure, offers below this figure do not legally have to be passed on.Commonsensesearcher wrote: »The EA has a legal duty to pass on all offers. Fact.
Wrong. See my comment above. We had a similar thing last week I offered on a house and the EA came back and said we've had a few look at it can you make the offer slightly higher?
NO!
Was my reply....................... she said OK they will accept it.
I swear to god............. EA's need burning with camping gas stoves they think its ok to try to drag a grand out of someone for the sake of £10 (1 % their commision)
How would they like it if someone said 'knock a grand off your commision and I'll give you a tenner!'
The EA is probably doing as instructed by their client the seller. The seller has probably said 'I'd really like another £1000, but if they won't increase, I'll accept their offer.' Its not trying to drag a grand out of anybody, its acting on the clients instructions. How would you feel as the seller if you had instructed the agent to try and get a better offer out of the buyer, but they hadn't bothered, therfore costing you a thousand pounds?0 -

Ummm, I hate to point out to you, that this wouldn't be a pretence. You do need business insurance to carry passengers through your workplace.
A lot of policies cover social, domestic and commuting to a permanent place of work. Business cover has to be added.
But since it sounds like you don't drive, you wouldn't know that, right?
Now you do!
But I don't think its on asking an EA for a lift really... I would never of dared ask! It seems cheeky. You want to view - then you organise to be there by your own transport, whatever that may be! :eek:0 -

I do drive but didnt know that. Well, you learn summink every day!
This was in London BTW, where a lot of people dont have cars. We decided to drive at the last minute because the trains were disrupted. With some of the properties over a mile apart, dont you think it might have been a good idea for the EA to just jolly well go and spunk some cash on insurance? How long would five viewing have taken with us walking all that distance? What if one of us wasnt so young and fit and muscular and dead sexy as we actually are?
Not like its the EA's job to show us around the properties they are trying to sell is it? Or is their job limited to sticking it on rightmove and picking their noses in the high street window?[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Rise like Lions after slumber

If the EA was using her car for work then she should have insurance that covers her for business use. We don't pay business mileage to any member of staff that doesn't provide us a copy of their insurance showing the correct cover in place.0

Thats true enough! I should call crimestoppers and have her nicked for no insurance.[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Rise like Lions after slumber

She probably has insurance, but not the correct insurance for using he car for work. She may have done you a favour, when I worked for an offshoot of one of the big insurance firms, year on year the EA division topped one of the tables maintained by the company, car crashes.0
