Transferring photos from camera to computer

When I transferred photos from my camera to my old computer I just plugged the camera into the tower and the Finepix thing came on the screen and in a couple of clicks it was done.
With my new computer a list of options come up and it's all so complicated (for me) . My son's done it a couple of times but it's all "click, click, click" and he's putting each photo into a folder and then moving it about and renaming etc. and although it didn't take him long it was a lot of messing about and I can't remember what he did.
Can I get it to be like it was before?

You mean you want to reinstall Finepix? I assume this was the software that came with the camera, just reinstall the program from the cd.

I have reinstalled Finepix and there's an icon for it on the desktop but it isn't automatically coming up when I connect the camera.

If your PC is fairly new chances are you now have Vista. I reommed the following method to most people.
Plug in the camera and cancel any prompts
Open My Computer (or Computer) and look for the camera - it should appear as a removable drive or a camera. Open this up and browse through all the photos
Just drag any photos off the camera to where ever you want to put them (My Pictures for example)

    301111987,
    Yes I have got Vista.
I've just done what you suggested and that's probably what my son did.
Can I put them into one folder and move it further down so that it's following on from my other photos?

you can put the files on your PC in any order, in any folder you like. I would advise against changing the filenames or folders of the files stored on the camera though as some cameras have their own picky file setups

Sorry, I meant on the PC (I didn't know you could have folders on the camera).
Could you tell me how to put the photos into a new folder?
  • Create a new folder. Right click and select NEW/FOLDER

Do you mean right click on one of the photos? It doesn't have NEW/FOLDER there.

    Hi
Along the top of the screen it says something like File Edit View etc.
I think that you should click on 'File' then it will give options to create a folder.

Thank you, I found it in Organize.
What a load of faffing about that was. It was a lot easier on the old computer.
And I've managed to lose one of the photos in transit. I'm hoping it might have dropped into another folder as I was dragging it past!
