i am a carpet fitter, and i have worked for carpet right
the cheapest way to do things is order carpet from them but use a private fitter who can supply all the gripper and underlay at half the cost.

CarpetRight are very expensive - I got a quote from them for my stairs/landing two years ago during the 'sale' and got a bit irritated by the combination of the pushy greasy salesman and the delivery charge. I also didn't particularly like any of the carpets and thought the quality was a bit shoddy.
Anyway I went then to the local 'posh' carpet place and got a quote from them for a wool carpet that I did actually like and they were either the same price or a bit cheaper. They also fitted Cloud 9 underlay (I'm told it's good stuff) when CarpetRight had quoted me for the black polystyrene stuff.
I would always recommend going somewhere local and independent, it's always worked best for us with stuff in the house plus you are keeping your money local instead of lining the pockets of some big fat cats who don't reinvest in your area.0 -
I went to a local carpet store and did a bit of haggling, I got my stairs, hall and dining room for £200, that included free fitting and grippers, they were going to throw in free underlay but the one I have down is much better quality than they would have supplied (it wasn't expensive carpet.... obviously!) then the guy that fitted it gave me his number and said he could get carpet cheaper if I wanted more for anywhere else in the house...... I've given his number to loads of people!0

I'm always amazed at the price of grippers from nationals.
Buy your own, and get them to use them

£22.50 for 152 metres.
And the door strips are about £3 to£5.0 -
