Damn you lot make me feel like a pauper.
Some of you pay more rent than I earn in a whole month.0 -

Most people earn 2/3rds that. I only know one person in the whole world that earns £30k and above.
The rest are £13-20k. For the last 6 years I've earnt £9-13k/year. Whereas 7-10 years ago I was earning a LOT more than that.ukbondraider wrote: »If most people are earning £30K then most people should be driving around in £1-2K cars.ukbondraider wrote: »Why are the roads therefore full of brand new cars that are £10K+?ukbondraider wrote: »Even a new Punto would be £6K ish which in my opinion is too much for someone to be spending with a £30K salary considering the other costs of living including a mortgage.ukbondraider wrote: »A lot of people i know earn around £300K and yet feel that they are only able to spend £10K on a car max.
Either they spend all their money on posh suits/meals and holidays, or you've got no idea how much Porsches/Mercs cost.ukbondraider wrote: »Why do they not deserve to drive around in new range rovers instead of the average folk in their average houses where these new cars are parked?
Those average folks might have the car on credit, or might be managing their money better than your frivolous friends with their Bolly and Cocaine.ukbondraider wrote: »The fact is alot of people who have money do so not because they are greedy but because they are not greedy.0 -
I DRIVE A 10 YEAR OLD PUNTO. Not a new one. It cost 1k 3 years ago. I need it to get around to my placements in order to get my degree to better myself. YOU nor anyone can tell me I don't deserve that.
If you read my posts carefully you would see that none of my posts are aimed at you.
I know your car costs around what you quoted and in my opinion you have done the right thing.
Like wise on the accomodation thing, if people need to rent due to work location then in my opinion this has to be done.
What I dont understand is that those on £30K think that spending £10K on a car is OK. I remember when I was starting out on nearly £50K a long time ago. I was just able to adequately run a £2K Alfa Romeo so how the hell does an average salary person buy a £16K Ford Focus or a £30K BMW.
As someone else mentioned, it is because they borrowed on credit i.e they cant afford it now but still want what they cant afford.
It is the people who borrow what they dont have to spend on things they cant afford that I have no sympathy for e.g youngsters using their credit cards to go clubbing or on holiday every year then blaming the ease of obtaining credit cards as the reason for their financial problems. I remember one post on these forums about someone travelling for a whole year after uni using only credit cards only to return with a debt they couldnt pay. Other members were then giving that person sympathy when all he or she should have gotten was a kick in the head from his/her parents. How many people would love to do nothing for a year and go around the world for free? I would say nearly everyone but we all cant do what we want.
In life we earn a living by ultimately providing a service to others i.e our work is doing something for someone else. What I hate are people who are constantly taking and not giving.0 -

I bought one brand new in 2001, it was £7k new for the bottom of the range and I got £1k off for paying cash.
Why the hell are you buying a brand new car for £7K if you earn a low salary? You should be driving around in a £1K car saving your money for other things.0 -

Deserve is an odd word. They can afford a brand new Porsche every year for cash if that's what they wanted.

Erm no. Like myself, my friends attitudes are to pay off their mortgages ASAP. So until we are mortgage free on our properties then we do not have the luxury of spending £100K on that Lamborghini we all want nor even that £30K on the BMW that we dont want. In fact alot of these people bought their first house which would be the final house for most people i.e 6 bed detatched in 5yrs. Most are now helping their siblings/family out with their mortgages.
Its a shame that other people attitudes arent to save more and overpay on their mortgage payments rather than taking out more credit because their 25 or 30 yr term means that they have some money left over per month. Although your mortgage may have a 25 or 30 yr term everyone should be aiming to clear it alot sooner with overpayments.0 -
How patronising.
I would never let my sister pay off my mortgage. I would be really embarrased by it and she - to use your words - deserves her money as she earnt it. Me and my family will pay off our mortgage on our own, we wouldn't want handouts.
In this country I dont think it is about being embarrased. In this country most brits wouldnt even consider helping their relatives out for it to be a problem. As we can see everyone is busily spending what they dont have instead.0 -

Honestly, you're behaving like a bit of a troll, and embarrassing no one except yourself.0 -

Haha, my sister lives up north and I live in London. She has a mortgage with her husband; her house cost just over 2 years salary for me! Yet a studio flat where I live now costs 6 times my salary. I not only don't want to work up north but htere are no jobs in my field there anyway so I'm here for the duration, unfortunately... and I have no intention of having handouts from my family to pay my mortgage.0

Eh? Your maths is shot. Most people earning £30k, in their first year of earning that would probably have a car of £4-10k.
OH and I each earn well north of £30k. We have a car between us, a 2 door R reg Fiat. No need to shovel money down the drain!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
