We use oil for central heating and hot water, I am wondering if its now cheaper to turn the oil boiler off at night and use economy seven to do the hot water and basic back ground heating?

Are there many money saving ideas for oil users - do the tank chemicals work that are supposed to save oil?

Thanks in advance for any feedback, I know that the above calculation has been doen before, but perhaps somebody a lot cleverer than me could do a spreadsheet of calculations whereby people could input the current prices and get latest figures?

Economy 7 is cheaper for heating and hot water than oil when you compare the price per kWh.

However you pay more for your daytime electricity when you have Economy 7, so that will reduce/cancel any savings or even mean you pay more. It all depends on your pattern of Electricty comsumption.

There is absolutely no reliable evidence that chemicals added to your oil(or the use of magnets for that matter) do anything but take money from your pocket - in other words a scam!
If they worked the Government/Energy Saving Trust/Which would be promoting them all the time.

You simply cannot produce a spreadsheet as there are too many variables:-

Price of Oil

Price of Economy 7(varies by supplier/area of the country)

Price of daytime electricity(ditto)

Overall consumption of electricity

Efficiency of oil boiler.
