Hi
When you download the installer.exe program, click on it to do the install.
Then click on the codec pack to install them too.
When you've finished there should be an SMPlayer entry on your menu.
Have you got that far?Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -
Yes, I've installed them both and SMPlayer is in All Programs

First we have to test if your SMPlayer has correct codec for BBC programmes.
This is what to do:-
Open SMPlayer from the menu.
Click on 'Open'
Then 'URL...'
Then a small URL box will open up.
Delete any text that is in the box.
Then copy and paste this URL link instead:-
rtsp://rmlive.bbc.co.uk/bbc-rbs/rmlive/ev7/live24/radio2/live/r2_dsat_g2.ra
Then click OK.
Be patient, after 1 or 2 minutes Radio 2 should play through the speakers.
(You will need to be online).
When you're happy with this, close down SMPlayer with the 'X' in top corner.
Does it play Radio 2 OK?Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -
umm... no!
I pasted the address, it said 'connecting to server' and then that address at the bottom of the window...but then nothingThat money talks

I don't know.
I suppose that you were online?
With mine it says 'connecting to server'
Then it says 'Cache fill'
Then it starts counting slowly.
When it gets near 20% the music plays.
Try this link instead, it's Radio 4:-
rtsp://rmlive.bbc.co.uk/bbc-rbs/rmlive/ev7/live24/radio4/live/r4_dsat_g2.raNever interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -
it worked this time...it did what you said
Radio 4 now playing through the speakers!

OK
Maybe Radio 2 is very busy just now.
Just to be sure, try
six music:-
rtsp://rmlive.bbc.co.uk/bbc-rbs/rmlive/ev7/live24/6music/live/6music_dsat_g2.ra
and
five live:-
rtsp://rmlive-acl.bbc.co.uk/bbc-rbs/rmlive-acl/ev7/live24/radio5/live/r5_tl_g2.raNever interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.0 -
yes all those stations working fine now; I think what happened was that I got a space at the end when I cut the address to paste

OK, it looks like you're ready to roll.
SMPlayer is a media player, similar to Windows Media Player or Winamp.
But you're just going to use SMPlayer to download 'Listen Again' programmes, nothing else.
So you have to instruct SMPlayer:-
"From now on save the programmes to my hard drive, don't play them through the speakers".
This is what to do:-
Open SMPlayer from the menu.
Click on 'Options'
Then 'Preferences'
Then 'Advanced'
Then look for an empty box that says 'Options:'.
Copy and paste the new options into the box.
Click 'Apply' then 'OK'.
These are the options:-
-dumpstream -bandwidth 999999999999 -ao null -vc null -vo null
That's it sorted, you won't need to go in there again.
From now on you won't be able to use it as a media player unless you delete those options.

Is that OK?
the only empty box I could see that said options was in the 'Options for MPlayer' tab which was next to the Advanced tab. I pasted -dumpstream -bandwidth 999999999999 -ao null -vc null -vo null into that and clicked Apply then OK. Was that right?
