Now BB, either you are a hypocrite, or a troll ...Benefits_Blagger wrote: »yes, since being on benefits i have built up £100k bank balance through gambling, (free bets, casino bonuses, bad eways, trading on betfair etc).
i would never have achieved this is if i was still a mug and had a job, as i would not have had the time to devote myself to these activites.
Why would you be homeless if you had £100K in the bank?Gone ... or have I?0 -
There are lots of cheap houses around in the region of 80k it is just that they aren't in very nice areas.
Bit of a generalisation here, as it depends on location on a national level, not regional. For instance, you could get a nice house in a lovely area up here in the 80k price range. But if it's cheap you want, then a flat in certain parts of Lanarkshire, for example, could set you back as much as, oooh, £35kAnd yes, they do have supermarkets there, and the same national minimum wage applies, so why limit yourself to expensive areas if you are happy in a particular line of work despite it only paying 10k per annum?
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

how am i a hypocrit ?
well at the moment, i am technically homeless, savings wont buy me anyway unless im willing to live somewhere where i will have prostitutes on side and drug addicts on the other.
if the market was more sensible, i would be able to buy somewhere reasonable and still have money left over.0 -
Im young, have a fiance and 2 kids and bought our house 3 1/2 years ago, aged 19. The value of the house has gone up by 50k, however, we have completely gutted it and replaced everything.
I didnt go to uni, nor did my partner, but we both have alright jobs that we enjoy.
I believe Life is what you make it, if you want to go to uni, and unavoidably get into debt, thats fine, but dont expect to walk out the university door and straight into your own home when others have been working full time and putting every penny towards paying for their house for the 4 or 5 years you've been studying.
Sorry if that was harsh but it makes me angry when young people go on about being hard done by and not being able to get onto the housing ladder when I know from personal experience that if you work and save hard enough, then you can.0 -
80k would not even buy a caravan around here I am afraid - even these now cost in excess of 100k, cheapest 1 bed flats in town are £120+ and in this village a 2 bed 'apartment' £250+, or 50/50 shared ownership at £995 a month plus rent!! Ouch!! mind you - you could rent one for £2500 a month...... would be funny if it was not true!! You do get a TV in the bathroom for this price though.0

You can't refer to yourself as one of 'the rest of us' when you probably have more money than most people that have their own homes!
As nykmedia said, you really need to look further afield if that is all you can afford where you are.Gone ... or have I?0 -
But BB you could put 6-12 months rent on the table and if you are not working/don't have a clean record this is what Landlords want to see as the rent is paid. HB would pay you back and then you'd get your money back. So no, you will never be homeless when you have 100k in the bank.
Of course, if you have 100k in the bank and you are being honest about it then you would not get Housing Benefits would you and you would actually have to live on that 100k.0 -

dmg, have you read the rest of the posts? BB go and tell the LL you have that much rent to put up front and they'll house you. Surely you only need a room in a shared house though rather than renting somewhere. Better than kipping on a mates sofa.0
