thank you for all your help and advice which will defo come in useful in the future. Unfortunatly last night (just before the PC died ) I had loaded the i tunes software on my laptop and then plugged in my ipod (cos it told me to!!) well im sure you can all guess what happened next - the ipod updated and therefore deleted everything, hard drive on the PC then crashes and thats the story so far (PC is still in the computer shops intensive care unit at the moment!)
I have learned a lot with this episode though!!
Thanks again for all your help guys0 -
If it's any concilation, you can probably still recover a lot of the music on the iPod. It is a hard drive, so you could run some recovery software on it.
Don't know what it deleted everything when doing an update, when I had my iPod I used to update the firmware all the time and it'd maintain the collection. That's another annoying thing about iTunes, it'll just go and format the iPod is if thinks something is wrong, and without even asking you!"Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -

Basically whats happened is that the first time you install itunes it asks you to attach your ipod and then if it hasn't got the latest revision of the software will ask you if you want to update and will also state that it will format the drive for the first time useage i.e. itunes install doesn't know your already using it, so thats whats happened here, as you never used the software with itunes on the laptop before.

So as you might guess thats me happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After being told last night my data was well and truly gone in the "great hard drive crash" the wonderful people at User Friendly Computers in Warrington (big up) have worked all day and managed to save absolultely everything. I am in total hero worship of them and I can now go and play with all your fantastic ideas for my ipod!!!0
