Cheapest Dial Up Access - Virgin Media

Options
I found a really old post with geographical numbers on it for access to dial up... is there anything around like this anymore as I have free calls with Virgin Media? If not, then what is the cheapest dialup provider for Virgin Media? I have tried AOLs 1 month trial which is now up and they offered it to me for £9.99 but I hate the AOL software...

here is the list I found on the old post...

Here are some dial-up Internet providers who provide access via a gegraphical dialling code:

So don't use the AOL software! Simply create your own DUN.

Even if you do find an active geographical number, you will usually find that any free/inclusive call packages are designed to include VOICE calls only, not data calls and there may be an exclusion somewhere in the T&Cs.

As a Virgin Media customer, you can join the Phone Co-Op and use their dial-up service via their override 0808 number to access their internet service (or anyone else's 0845 internet service for that matter) for a cost of 1p/min off peak (evenings and weekends) and 3.9p/min daytime - with NO connection charges per call, and if you choose the Phone Co-Op's Caller Plus tariff there is a minimum call charge of just 1p +VAT (1.175p). So a quick send and receive of email is much cheaper than calling direct with Virgin. You can still use you Virgin line direct to make free weekend calls.

GeoISP - 020 8114 9845 and use the likes of 18185 to get around any "voice only" T&C's.

I have connected to GeoISP through 18185 (well, 0808 1703 703 which is the number for virgin 18185) and any username and password to connect - works great and will be 4p connection charge and then 1p a minute so it said. virgin wanted 7p connection charge and then 3p a minute for their PAYG dial up.

The co-op one looks to be cheaper evenings, but not durning the day.. seams like a great way to get around 0845 charges though.
