Company Car question

in Cutting tax
Hello
I saw a post on here a while back regarding company cars, I have searched and can not seem to find it. So I will ask my questions and hopefully someone may able to help me.
I have had a company car for the last 3 years coming on for 4 years.
I pay for my own fuel and then claim mileage back at 10p per mile
I'm sure I was reading I may able to claim some money back from the tax office or goverment.
I average 15,000-20,000 business mile per year
The questions are
Can you claim any money from goverment or tax office?
is so How do i do it?
Any replies will be much appreciated.
Regards

If you use your own car for work, you can claim a tax allowance of 40p per mile on the first 10,000 miles and 25p per mile thereafter. As you are not using your own car, you cannot claim this deduction.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

Thanks Fengirl for replying
So basically I need to have a meeting with my boss at work
Since prices have gone up for fuel I am definately paying more than 10p a mile, so we need to aggree a new rate for mileage.
Just another question then, from what you are saying above, is it worth getting an allowence to buy/use my own car?
Does anybody get an allowence, does it benefit you? ie doing 20,000 mile per year, maintaining, taxing and insrance and so on.
What is a good allowence to ask for in my yearly review in April?
sorry for all the daft questions its just something i've never really looked into.

I get £700 per month car allowance and we've worked out that we are around £200 better off a month having opted out of the company car scheme. I think the average car allowance is £500 per month and depending on the type of car you choose (we have an Audi A4) it may not make a lot of difference with that allowance. You can play with figures at https://www.cashorcar.com which calculates all the fuel costs too.0

Also, if you get petrol paid for business journeys, at a lower rate than 40p, you can claim relief on the difference between the rate you get paid, and 40p. Not sure if this applies if you have a company car but pay your own petrol as well. . You should check that on the Revenue website.
NB you can't claim relief for any miles to and from work, so you should keep a diary of business only trips, and any trips made where you go straight from home, need to have journey to nornal place of work milage deducted.0 -
No, the 40p per mile is designed to cover everything to do with running the car - from fuel to depreciation, so you couldn't claim anything extra.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0
