    splendeed. sorry.:j

I just googled it, and the only results were this forum thread

You say that the foam layer underneath is soft. This is probably your problem. Memory foam needs a good supportive layer under it otherwise it just won't give you the support it is supposed to.

Thanks Tim - that makes sense.

I'm thinking of replacing the cheap lower foam layer with a firm mattress, and using the existing memory foam as a topper. Should be much cheaper than replacing the whole thing, since the memory foam mattresses tend to be pricier.

I take on board your point about the two layers being matched for the best results though, and will definitely bear this in mind for the future.:A
  • Scratch that idea - just had a go at separating the two layers, but the memory foam layer started to break up. looks like we'll have to start again from scratch.

all I said was that I googled splendeeze and the only thing it came up with was this thread.

    EDIT:

oops, I just found it at the top of the page (it's been a long day)

It sounds like the memory foam wasn't brilliant quality either.

No yours isn't a one off at all. Try searching the forums for Silentnight, and you will see what I mean.

Coolmax is a bit of a gimmick, and isn't worth paying much extra for.
  • Tim, thank you for the great and helpful info. I wonder if you could give just a gentle 'hint' as to which would be a good company to get a mattress from. My poor back has been aching for ten years, I want to buy a good one and am prepared to invest, but I can't afford to make a mistake and get it wrong!
