    Update from the Setanta website:

    http://www.setanta.com/en/UK/News/Important-viewing-information-for-Satellite-customers-on-Saturday-/

Setanta do appear to acknowledge that there is some kind of problem for some customers. I guess the thing to do is sit tight for a few days.

For the meantime, Setanta 1 appears to be capable of being added manually: Goto the bit where you manually enter channels, and add the frequency 11.585 and Horizontal polarisation (leave the FEC and symbol rates unchanged, and do a search, and Setanta Sports will appear in the list of found channels - add it so this can then be accessed via the "other channels" button). I have the French football at the moment, with the Setanta1 ident in the top right.

I managed to get through to CS and they tell me it was to do with the Earth Tremor we had which has damaged one of the Transponders and most of GB has been affected!!!!

We are about 35 miles from the where the 'tremor' came from. CS reckons we should be up and running in 24hrs - if not to phone back!!!....
I am curious to know how an earth tremor in the UK affected a transponder on a satellite about 35,000 kilometres away.

If the tremor affected the signal uplink equipment, then it would affect everyone equally.

CS were talking bull I think.

All my Setanta channels are back again, and I was able to "enjoy" York against Exeter. The signal returned in by far the worst weather we have had this year!

Happy that I did not do what the CS initially advised and stump up £50 or so for someone to realign the dish. I hope they will pay compensation for anyone who took their "advice".

On various forums, I have heard people reporting Setanta have blamed this on misaligned dishes, faulty digiboxes, bad weather, earthquakes and sunspots. Reading between the lines, I suspect they have performed some kind of upgrade that was incompatible with a small minority of older boxes (i.e. not tested on all target systems) and have had to either patch it or wind it back. The fact that many people lost their channels, and recovered them all at the same time certainly points to something done at their end, which obviously was not 100% effective.

Heres hoping that this is the end of the matter. Thanks all for the help over the last few days.
