Microsoft Office For Students

My grandfather is a mature student through the local college, as is my mother, and they both want Microsoft Office. I found out today that my grandad had gone to Staples and was about to put Microsoft Office on his credit card to pay it off bit by bit so he could use it on his new Vista laptop (That's a whole other sore spot, my grandfather and vista do not mix ) when I rang him and stopped him - sure I could get it cheaper than what they were offering for just the Student Edition - especially as it doesn't have Access on it and as he's taking courses for it, he obviously needs that too.
When I set up his laptop for him I downloaded Open Office for him and put it on and he cannot get on with it. I've shown him how to use it and even bought him a book from Smiths that shows him too but he is not happy and he is of the age where there really is no reasoning with him so I've spent today googling nad I've found this:
http://www.microsoft.com/uk/education/buy/pro-default.mspx
Has anyone used http://www.theultimatesteal.co.uk/ or http://www.software4students.co.uk/
Are they legit? (More the last one as it seems the easier to explain to him and sort out) Are there any other places that offer the same?
Thanks guys!
ETA: Googling's found this one: http://www.rm.com/thebasement/ - is it any good? It does say fulltime students and neither mum or grandad are - they're both parttime.

theultimatesteal is ran by microsoft; you get the ultimate package [includes publishers, word, excel etc].
I know a few people who have got it at my uni!
its a good deal.
So i'd suggest going for that.
however i think you have to be at uni to get it.
hope that helps0 -
ps. i just noticed i noticed that they say doing it through colleges; but if they are in a course they should be able to.0

i work in the education sector, your grandad aswell as your mother both NEED to be registered with NUS and have a valid NUS number to get the discount, otherwise you shouldnt bother, as you wont get the discount.
If they are registered to a college, but not with NUS, go on the NUS website and get them registered on there to save them some hassle later on, the card they get entitles them to ALOT of discount in other shops too
link for NUS Online http://www.nusonline.co.uk/register/student/default.aspx- Total Debt :£190,000 - Mortgage

- Owed: £9000 Tesco Clubcard Mastercard
- Owed: £5500 Barclaycard Platinum
- Owed: £1800 - Car Payments

This is not the case for The Ultimate Steal offer. All you need is a university email address. I don't have an NUS number, and I got the offer.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Thanks
Mum's actually at college now so I'll have a word with her when she gets in. 0 -
If the college provide them with their own .ac.uk email address then you should be fine with the ultimate steal offer thats all they check for.0

I have used this website to get microsoft office cheaper, I've downloaded mine and it work great, and I've had no problem. But you do need to do all through your student email address, so you need an address ending in ac.uk.
Hope this helps :A .0 -

That's not true and is misleading. You DON'T have to be registered with the NUS to take advantage of this offer (there are a number of large student unions which aren't affiliated with the NUS). This particular offer has nothing to do with the NUS.
All you need for this offer is a valid .ac.uk address as well as being able to prove that you're either enrolled in a higher education course or for further education students (college) have at least 15hrs contact time a week for your course.
Btw the ultimate steal offer is probably what you want for your grandfather as it does include Access. If you're going to purchase MS Office then its probably the cheapest place for you to get a legal copy of this version.

I wouldn't use UltimateSteal, their customer service is incredibly poor.
I ordered mine, had a problem with the payment going through from paypal and was sent an automatic email saying I should reorder. I couldn't reorder as they only allow one transaction and thus emailed customer service. You have 7 days to cancel the order, by the 5th day I had not received a reply and had sent them 2 emails so I cancelled the order. I then almost immediately received a reply (rather convenient) and was told I could not reorder the product as only one transaction was allowed and that if I had wanted to reorder I should have done it whilst my other order was active which I blatantly could not do because the website would not permit it.
God forbid I'd paid for it and the download hadn't worked.0 -
Sorry to hear of your bad experience, CloudRuler. I had no problems when I ordered from The Ultimate Steal, although I did opt for the DVD version, which arrived quickly.0
