Don't you regularly remind us that you claimed from Warm Front and are receiving AA? and probably other things that you are fully entitled to. I'm sure you aren't meaning to sound like Farway (I'll have it thank you but I don't think anyone else should get it).
No, I wasn't meaning that at all.
Anyone who gets AA, DLA, or any disability-based benefit, has a reason for getting it. I have never said that no one else should get it. Some might argue that my daughter shouldn't get DLA, after all she has a full-time job (when she's not off sick as she is at the moment!) but a person on DLA or AA has other expenses that don't apply to many people. Use of free bus passes may not be possible, for example, so need to pay for own transport. Also a person on AA or DLA will have greater need for an efficient hot water supply and possibly that's the reason for the WarmFront entitlement.
However, we do quite often see new threads headed 'I'm 60 now, what can I claim, what am I entitled to'. Being 60 in itself need not signal a need for extra benefits or concessions. I pointed out that I worked until I was 67. You seem to have some kind of resentment towards my AA? If so, as the car stickers have it 'you can have my parking space if you have my disability too'.
I have referred to my AA in the context of others who don't know how to apply for it/don't know whether they'd be entitled. People like you cannot make me feel guilty about this benefit because every time I start to question 'do I really need this?' some other darned thing crops up and makes me think 'Yes, I jolly well DO!'
I was pointing out, in general, a widespread 'what can I claim?' attitude which exists. I am not the only person who has noticed this, among all ages.

I don't see anything wrong with people asking if they're entitled to anything if they're a certain age. Asking for advice and receiving different opinions is what this entire website is based on. After all, you would be pretty p--d off if nobody told you about the winter fuel payment wouldn't you?0

What on earth was that post all about?margaretclare wrote: »I think this is actually fair enough. Age 80+ are statistically likely to be poorer, likely to be less mobile so not moving around to stay warm, live in poorer housing which may cost more to heat, more likely to have 'fuel poverty', more likely to live alone.
Between age 60 and 65 I was still working, in fact I worked up to age 67. My situation -although I wasn't exactly well-off - was poles apart from most of the 80+ people in the statistics.
I deplore the 'what can I claim, what am I entitled to?' mentality which grips our country today.
I was explaining why my relative got £300 when the thread was stating £200.
What is the matter with you?0 -

Margaret, I have nothing against you getting AA or any other benefit that you are entitled to, in fact I think everybody should get their full entitlement. I thought that by now you would have understood what I was trying to say, I've said it often enough.
Chesky hits the nail on the head.
What are benefits and entitlements there for if not to be claimed?
Enough has been said in the media about millions of pounds worth of benefits not being claimed and you frown on someone asking here for some info.
And please do not insult me by suggesting that I am trying to make you feel guilty about claiming anything, that never entered my head. What you should feel guilty about is typing that sentence that I quoted. You make it clear that you are very "comfortably off" but just remember there are others on here who could do with everything they can get their hands on and a little more and just from their anonymous posts you cannot and should not judge them with sweeping statements.0 -

Keep shtum ! It happened to an over 80 relly of mine, and it took a couple of years for it to be corrected and DWP didn't ask for the over payment to be repaid - bless !.................

Why do you 'deplore; the 'what can I claim' , 'what am I entitled to'. I have worked most of my working life and become retirement age next year but may carry on working, but yes I will claim what I am entitled to claim. Why shouldn't I? There is a very large amount of unclaimed benefits in the Governments Bank Account because people are unsure of their entitlements. Nobody writes to them and tells them their rights to benefits. But then there are others that walk into the country and are put wise to the benefits system. So who do you 'Deplore' ?0 -
We live in a civilised democratic society. Those who are entitled to help get it, those who aren't don't..................
