Age for Winter fuel payment to rise from 60 to 65

Hardly, this is surely brings it into line with retirement age rising to 65 for both sexes?
Why should working people age 62 get extra help with heating costs?
I assume in due course bus passes, prescriptions & eye tests etc will also fall into line with rising retirement age, and why ever not
Based on that analogy I assume you would also advocate that anyone over 65 and still working also wouldn't be entitled to any of these benefits.Age & Treachery Will Always Overcome Youth & Enthusiasm !!

A little personal experience that cost me £100. I received £200 winter fuel allowance when I was 60 and I received this for the next 2 years. When I was 63 I only received £100 but I DIDN'T notice that it had happened. When, in May, I did notice and made some enquiries I was told that my payment was correct as the other £100 should have gone to my wife who had then become 60. She hadn't received it as she hadn't claimed it. As the last date for claiming was in March we lost out on £100. So please be aware.
Is this correct, will be 60 at the end of June? How do I make sure this does not happen to us. How do I claim it? Thanks0 -
Heating Allowance
Once you are 60, you will receive the £200 per annum Government Heating Allowance. It is currently £200 per household and if you live with a partner, once the first one is 60 (you have to be 60 by 24 September in order to receive it around Christmas-time) he or she will receive the £200. When the other partner also reaches 60 you both get £100.
If you're aged 60 and getting a State Pension or other benefit (not including Housing Benefit, Council Tax benefit or Child Benefit) there’s no need to apply - Winter Fuel Payment should be paid to you automatically.
There are more details on www.direct.gov.uk and you can get a claim form by calling the Winter Fuel Payment helpline on 08459 151 515, textphone 0845 601 5613. Lines are open Monday to Friday from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm.0 -

Someone explained on another thread that the £300 was due to age ( after 80).0

I think this is actually fair enough. Age 80+ are statistically likely to be poorer, likely to be less mobile so not moving around to stay warm, live in poorer housing which may cost more to heat, more likely to have 'fuel poverty', more likely to live alone.
Between age 60 and 65 I was still working, in fact I worked up to age 67. My situation -although I wasn't exactly well-off - was poles apart from most of the 80+ people in the statistics.
I deplore the 'what can I claim, what am I entitled to?' mentality which grips our country today.

Very lucky if in the same household, the absolute max is £300 per household.sloughflint wrote: »My relative received £300 for the last three years and spouse got £200.This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0 -

Margaret, I don't understand that blanket statement.
Don't you regularly remind us that you claimed from Warm Front and are receiving AA? and probably other things that you are fully entitled to. I'm sure you aren't meaning to sound like Farway (I'll have it thank you but I don't think anyone else should get it).0
