Do I need travel Insurance?

For France you do not need to worry about health costs (the Frence will patch you up) and I think that the repatriation costs are much less than suggested here. The highest would be to hire an ambulance to drive you as Britain and France are connected! You would not fly!
That said, if you have no insurance then you have no cover for delays, cancellations, alternative accommodation, lost luggage etc. If you can self insure all of these risks, plus the potential repatriation costs then fine. However, you should be able to get insurance for a few quid so why on earth would you not do so?

Yes, the French will patch you up if you only have relatively minor injuries. What happens if serious injuries are involved. Anyone with spinal injuries would be flown in an air ambulance. Pay the premium & be covered for peace of mind!0 -
No doubt about it - do take EHIC anyway since it is FREE and very useful for medical treatment in Paris if needed BUT although medical treatment in France is excellent, repatriation by air taxi or air ambulance would cost you £6,000 minimum if you live in London area and up to £12,000 if in a more remote part of UK. Repatriation on a scheduled flight if you needed a stretcher would cost about £5k to 8k and only AirFrance take stretchers and only one one or two of their routes so you may have to end up with an air taxi anyway if they had no availability Ask the Foreign Office how many calls they get at their Paris Embassy from people who decided to save a few pounds on travel insurance or who made the error of thinking 'it would never happen to them' - so you will see from the FCO website also why THEY strongly advise taking out such cover in addition to EHIC. BUT above all enjoy the holiday which will I am sure be troublefree albeit it is better to be safe than sorry should anything go wrong...0

I had a slight injury in Paris over Christmas and it is the Fire Department who deal with first aid, and very handsome indeed was the fireman.
However... if you have to call out a dr and get prescriptions you will find it very expensive as a MSE'r found to their cost with no insurance. Pop into your local PO or do it online for peace of mind. 0
