I was caught speeding the other week by a speed camera at night.

Today i received a "notice of intended prosecution" from the local police.

It is a form S172 Notice requesting confirmation of the owner and driver details. No fine payments have been stated or requested.

I was driving 36mph in a 30mph zone (which used to be a 40mph zone)..anyway. a bit dissapointed in myself and wonder whats the worst that can happen to me?

Will it be a fine or fine and points or what? (its my first offence in 9yrs+ driving).

thanks

Its usually 3 points and a fine, which i think is £60. It shouldn't affect your insurance too much as so many people are being done for speeding.

If your really lucky you *might* be offered a course in driver education but i'm not sure of how they offer them or the circumstances needed.

You will find a lot of info on the net about people who can get you off them, please dont, you got caught fair & square like most of us, just accept it & learn from it.

Its not the end of the world.

    Hi thanks for your reply.

I was hoping it would be no points - even though i hear it does not effect insurance, i have hear other still having to declare speeding points to insurance companies.

    thanks

It will be a fine of £60 and 3 penalty points, standard for a SP30, most people I would imagine has had one of these, apart from me, I don't drive. Info from my hubby, he's been done once (SP30) in over 20 years of driving, should have been more though !!!!!!!!!!!
It may affect your insurance policy costs next time, but only a small amount and you may have to inform your insurers now.

I have to drive like a saint, honest.

I drive a company car but we also have our own car, so i cant get done for speeding or have a crash.

the moron who hit me in the back end in B'ham last year stuck £30 on my permium this year.

My hubby has had to declare his SP30 every year, it's 5 years up in November and will be finished as far as insurances go, unless of course he gets another !!!!!

Ask them to provide evidence ie, a photograph. You are innocent until proved guilty. Who said you were speeding?? When they return the photo ask them to produce a calibration certificate for the said camera. Many cameras are far from accurate. What have you got to lose??

i managed to see online by NIP details and photograhic evidence from

    http://www.safespeedforlife.co.uk/view_offence.asp

    it says on website
I was the driver. What happens now?
You need to complete Part 1 and sign the notice that has been sent to you and return it to the Fixed Penalty Unit. In most instances, you will then receive a "conditional offer" of a fixed penalty notice.

    What is a conditional offer?
This gives you the opportunity to settle the matter without having to go to court. The fine is £60. You will also have three penalty points added to your driving licence.

How long will the penalty points stay on my licence?
Penalty points are valid for a period of three years from the date of conviction, but cannot be removed from your licence until four years have elapsed
  • i have never understood how we came to situation where a murderer can remain silent but a motorist has to incriminate themselves by giving details of whom was driving at time of the offence, which in fact is a confession

    Maybe because a murderer doesn't have to pay a fine - it's a racket !!!!

suppose motorists pay fines which go to Brown's pockets - murderer's cost police and court time
