I went for white because i couldnt find the style i wanted in cream. i was dubious about it, but ive never had any regrets. have moved house since, and now need a new kitchen again (this one is golden oak, cathedral arch doors, ugh!!!) and wouldnt hesittate to have white, so many warm colours do go with it, without making it look stark, and surprisingly, it doesnt show the dirt like you would think it would.

  • i'd like to add to this.. i chose gloss white slab units because it seemed to be the right choice for my type of property. my kitchen is quite small and the property is a fairly modern 2 bed maisonette. i thought a modern, clean kitchen would be best.

i've now got the kitchen units and have a fitter helping me next week. before then though i've got to decide on floor and worktop. i'm very close to getting an oak effect laminate floor (the thicker water resistant type), to soften the white gloss effect. for a worktop i'm trying to find one in grey but havent had much luck yet. hope fully sort it out at the weekend.

i agree that white can look cold and clinical, and i've seen pictures where it does. however, i'm hoping by using wood effect floor and a worktop that doesnt contrast too much, that it wont look cold.

if i had a bigger kitchen in a proper house then i'd definitely not be looking at white, i think i'd either go for a framed oak or framed cream , or even gloss cream, with dark high quality worktops.

Another vote for cream matt, i would team it with solid wood worktops and a ceramic sink......

i chose cream (ivory) matt shaker style with beech worktop and I love it. I havent seen a white gloss shaker style and I cant really imagine it as traditional shaker styles tend to be matt.
  • Cream matt for me too, with intergrated appliances
