This article finally geared me into action:j to phone my Water Company, as we live in a 4 bed detached and all the kids have left home now . So , by changing to a water meter they reckon that our bill will drop from £750 to around £400 ! Result !! :T

I bought my mum a drought plug (google it)

Washes her car and waters her garden with bath water! Thought it was just a brilliant idea for her, as she loves her bathes, but think I might get one for me for the hosepipe ban...
  • I think having a water meter installed last June was the best thing i have had done for years. After it was installed i called Southern Water to go on metering straight away. We were paying over £420 a year b4 on unmetered. They gave us a rebate of £150 from previous payment. since then we havent had to pay a penny as still using our rebate. Our water useage is about 400 ltrs a week. Thats right 400 ltrs a week for 2 of us. By this June we would of had a years worth of water and sewage for the original rebate. thats what i call a saving.

It is worth pointing out that is less than 20% of the average UK consumption.

400 litres a week is 20.8 cubic metres a year. The UK average is approx 110 cubic metres for two people.
  • After seeing :money: on This Morning (Mon 14th) I felt compelled to pipe up about my water bill experience.
Up until this time last year, my son and I had been living in a 3 bedroom maisonette for a number of years. Had I of known then what I know now, I would have acted a lot sooner. I thought (assumed) that my £480 bill per year was ok, however, since moving in to a 2 bedroom property, my water bills are £200 cheaper. We haven't had a water meter installed, we have simply downsized. I would highly recommend that anybody living in a property which has more bedrooms than occupants speak to their water supplier or consider having a meter installed...I wish I had done that 10 years ago! That's roughly £2000, excuse the pun, down the drain!!
  • Moved into a house 3 months ago with a water meter. Is there any way I can go back to normal rates ? Severn Trent said can't.

    Hi all,

I'm most confused. Most people on this thread are paying around the £400 mark for an annual water bill. Ours has just come in at £1291.57. We have a water meter fitted. My husband and I live in a 2 bedroom ground floor flat. We both work full time and have no children. Neither of us take baths, only showers. We do have a dishwasher which goes on every 3 days or so and also a washing we use twice or 3 times a week. We have no outdoor water supply as there are communal gardens.
Why oh why are we paying SO much more than everyone else it seems?? We are on the Anglian Water 'SoLow' rate and our payments per month have been put up to £108.00. This is on par with our council tax!
Does anyone else pay this much??? Or does anyone know what we could do about it? Seems ludicrous.

    Thanks

    Abs
