Laptops and Windows

I just bought a new laptop of ebay but the plonker i bought it off has a username and password which he didnt take off before he sent it me and now i cant use it?

I want to format the hard drive, is there a way i can do this without logging in? Its really annoying!

if he sent the disks with the laptop then yes you can do (assuming its the operating system password and not the bios password) if you have nothing then you will have to source your own install disks and start from scratch.

If you have a Windows CD just boot it off that and re-install windows (you may need to go into the BIOS and change it to boot from CD). I'm assuming it is a windows user account and password you are talking about not a BIOS one?

You'd be better off re-installing windows anyway on a second hand machine.

id rather do it the old fashioned way with the disk than use any of them programs
    seems a bit dodgy lol

do i just put the disk in the drive and then turn the laptop on?

you can do as most computers/laptops boot from the CD first before booting from the harddrive. However if it doesn't do this on startup press f8 to get into the BIOS setting and change the order of bootup so as its CD first.

It may not be F8 to get into the BIOS to change the boot order, it's often the DEL key and I've a feeling on my laptop it's F2. However if you watch the BIOS screen when it is loading it should say something like "press Del to enter setup" so you just press whatever key it says.
