    hi there

Interesting comments and stories. thanks Cardew, ChrisandAnne and Kitty. Quite worrysome. Debt collectors do indeed send horrible letters I was trying to sort out this issue with E.On, and they still hadn't called off the Debt Collectors (as they said they would).

The company operates strangely, and this is definitely due to unqualified/uncaring staff in call centres. As Cardew said everything is done by phone nowadays, and we have nothing recorded on paper...and we are all treated as guilty until proven innocent.
You would also think that they might have a write-off account of unpaid debts (as most do), but E.on wants to pursue matters even if I have never spoken to them in my life to open an account. How did my name get into their system? Someone greedy for a bonus at E.on used my name?

    Who knows????
  • Hi

My father received 3 letters today from CapQuest dept recovery, he never opens any mail even if it's addressed to him !!, so it's lovely to come home from work and pitch straight into this nightmare !!. One letter asked him to prove he sold the house and when, this isn't a problem as he sold to his Grandson and said Grandson assures us he informed E.on of the change and gave them the final meter reading taken when my Dad left the house and set up a new account in his name, he hasn't lived in the house yet as he has been refurbishing it, but he has had electricity bills which he paid. I am sending the requested information and we'll see what happens. I don't understand why he is being persued, what is worrying is that if my Dad were alone how would an elderly person deal with this ? he can't even use the phone as he is deaf. This sort of thing would be impossible for someone like him to sort out. It's very worrying that elderly and/or disabled people should be subjected to this.

Newspaper article wasnt really much help and didnt specifically mention E.on, just some other companies who are doing the same thing. They recommend the following,
1 GET THE FACTS: Ask the company to carry out an investigation to show how much you owe and what the debt is for. Request that all correspondence about the debt stops until this is completed. If necessary, point out that a failure to disclose will be brought to any judge's attention if the matter goes to court.
2 KEEP IN TOUCH: If a debt agency is hired, address correspondence to the original company and copy in the debt collector, and ask it to check again with the company.
3 DEADLOCK: Not getting anywhere? Tell the company that if the matter isn't resolved within 28 days you will consider it deadlocked, and you will then go straight to the company's formal complaints procedure.
4 TAKE IT FURTHER: If you continue to receive final demands, address complaints for debit/credit cards and loans to the Financial Services Ombudsman (https://www.fos.org.uk, 020 7964 0500), phone and internet services to Otelo (https://www.otelo.org.uk, 01925 430049), and energy complaints to the Energy Supply Ombudsman (https://www.energy-ombudsman.org.uk, 01925 530263).
5 BAD CREDIT REPORT: If the dispute isn't resolved, your credit rating will probably be affected. Credit reference reports are held by companies such as Callcredit, Equifax and Experian. If yours is incorrect, get the company that is in the wrong to ask for the report to be amended, and write to the credit reference agency yourself.

6 HARASSMENT: The Office of Fair Trading has issued guidance for debt collectors on how to deal fairly with debtors. Go to the OFT's website at https://www.oft.gov.uk for more information.

Not sure if thats much help really though.

    Hi HelloKitty

This is very useful to me, my father hasn't received any letters from e.on though so I don't even know who I am supposed to be dealing with, before I reply to the debt collectors I would like to have the E.on dept I am supposed to contact and then I can do as this post suggests and write to them direct and copy the debt collectors in...do you know the name of the dept and the address I should write to ? could you post it for me please:confused: ?

    Hello,

So far i put in a complaint to the complaints department via the website. As i felt that the regular mail might take to long, and then you do have a record of the reply. I have been advised to stay off the phone.

    http://www.eonenergy.com/At-Home/Contact/Complaint/?WT.svl=4

although the problem is you can not reply to the e-mail address they send you. ( i just copied and pasted the old e-mail into my reply. )

I am currently awaiting a reply to my second e-mail where i have asked them to suspend the case with the debt collectors because they had given me no opportunity to look in to the matter, by attempting to contact me direct before passing my details on to a debt collection agency. I have also asked me where they want me to send any information i may be abe to find. As although they keep asking for it, no one has yet told me where to send it!!

  • Thanks...it's not just me then !!!! I felt a bit daft not even knowing where or who I should write to. The debt collectors in my Dads case have given me twenty eight days to send proof to THEM, I do feel that as the debt is owing to E.on (according to them) I should be dealing with them direct. I will send stuff to debt collectors as asked and see what happens after that !!!!

    Hi

The problem is that E.ON employs so many debt collectors it is hard to keep track!

I had one on my case, and when I called E.on they didn't even know them.

    What a joke!

    Hi Kitty
Sorry about the bad day...hope the phone call was productive, the Debt collection agency have given me twenty eight days to produce proof of my Dads change of address, so you should get the same to provide them with your proof, what happens then I do not know, start making a list of all the time and expense this is costing you because you can claim from e.on as per the London Law posting...but to be quite honest I would be glad if they would just say 'oh yes that's fine thank you'... and go away !!!.
Perhaps if you search you will find a cheaper car insurance...I have never been asked on a quote if my car has alloy wheels and they have locks on them anyway, you will probably find a cheaper quote. When I renew mine I shop and then ask my current provider to match it and they do. I am with Norwich Union Direct which don't come out as the cheapest unless you ask them for more money off the price.
