" The auditors say that in our modern society, where we do little hard manual labour and change our clothes daily, there is no need to thrash laundry around in a machine for two hours with hot water and chemicals, when a light, warm rinse will do.

Blimey! They haven't seen my son's school shirts that he keeps forgetting to put out to wash! I'm sure they are sending him down the mines, not having him sitting at his desk

BTW, used the washing 'balls'. Thought they were okay if you were just freshening up clothes. Did another wash without using anything, balls or detergent and the results were similar.

Unfortunately I rarely have a wash of just clothes for freshening, so have gone back to detergent.

MATH - I've just seen this thread - please let us know about your whites test!!!

Sorry Chloe, I missed this post. I save all my white and stained pastels for a special long wash. My usual routine would be:

Hot fill and 10 min full agitation with bio powder
Add 250ml bleach and wash for another 10 mins
(don't use this much bleach in a front loader, you'll end up with rags) LOL
Twocold rinses and a spray spin

I tried replacing the powder with the ball and it wasn't so good but eco balls and half the amount of powder followed by the bleach is great. HTH

    wash balls!!
I got sucked in by qvc years ago and bought loads when they were TSV. They were useless. No good with whites or stained clothes. Ok for freshening up coloureds. I should have seem alarm bells when they sold a massive stain stick with each pack. I wouldn`t buy them again, ever

I got suckered into buying some of these at the Ideal Home exhibition. Biggest load of old crap I ever bought! If anyone wants one plus a load of refill 'pellets' they can have them for nothing!

  • I,ve just got one of these from Lakeland. It did my dark wash well, but I washed my doomat which dog had peed on and it was still a bit smelly when it came out. I decided to clean the machine out with washing soda and vinegar following this!

Has anyone else tried these? They are a great alternative to washing powder and fabric conditioner and they save money and the environment.

I paid £34.99 for some as I thought I might give them a go after reading good reviews (https://www.guardianoffers.co.uk).

I was a bit suspicious that they might not work but they are the best purchase I've made all year. They are supposed to last for about three years and I worked out that, over this period, I will probably save about £180 by not buying my old washing products - result!!!

But do they actually make your clothes smell nice and get them clean?

Apologies - didn't realise there was already a thread on this!!

I'm very happy with the results so far.

If I have soiled clothes, I use vanish before the wash.

With regard to the clothes smelling nice, they have no particular smell after they come out of the wash so is neither offensive or smelling artificial. One of the main reasons I bought them was, apart from potentially saving me money in the long run, I wasn't harming myself or the environment with all the chemicals in washing powders and fabric conditioners. Hope this answers your question black-saturn.

Wasn't sure where to ask this question, so here it is, lol.

I have been talking to someone on another forum today about Eco-Balls - I had never heard of them before. They cost £35 and you put them in the washing machine to clean your clothes instead of using wash powder.

This is what the website that sells them says:-

''Environmentally friendly Eco-ball is a scientific breakthrough in cleaning technology. Just place the three eco-balls in your washing machine instead of detergent. Together they produce ionized oxygen that activates the water molecules naturally and allows them to penetrate deep into clothing fibres to lift dirt away. They are reusable for over 1000 washes and costs on average 3p per wash. There are no harsh chemicals so less pollution. Rinse cycle can be shortened saving water and electricity. They will not fade bright colours or damage clothing fibres. Hypoallergenic so suitable for sensitive skins/eczema (including babies and children). Ecoballs soften clothes even in hard water. As your clothes will be softer no fabric conditioner is necessary. Also anti-bacterial and kills Escherichia Coli and Staphylococcus Aureus. Comes with a 30 day money back guarantee! Includes free refill pellets and a stain remover. Imagine not having the hassles and expense of carting bulky powders and liquids home from the supermarket ever again!''

Box contains: 3 Balls, 3 Refills, 1 Stain Remover

Just wondered if anyone uses them and if so would you recommend them?

I'm tempted to give them a go as I have 2 young Children - one who has eczema and one who wears cloth nappies.
