I've come to realise that my house is full of holes....literally. :( I didn't appreciate this was the case until we started refurbing it. I suppose the worst and largest amount are the holes where pipes come up through the floor, like under the kitchen sink for instance. You never see or notice these normally so I'd never…

I wouldn't block up close to heating or hot water pipes with cement or plaster of any sort as although it will fix the drafts it'll create another problem that every time the pipes heat up or cool down you'll get an annoying clicking sound with the expansion and contraction. Use sealant or a flexible filler which will move as the pipes expand/contract without cracking up.
