Hi,
i seem to be having a problem with fring on my n95, i have just debranded it and upgraded to v20 software, which has made a massive difference.
however when i load fring (which i ahve never used before) it downloads to the phone and installs but according to the fring site it go through a registration process but it dosent, i ahve removed from phone and tried again and still does nothing.
when i start up fring it says billable events allows this application to connect to the imternet yes/no then loads access points, which i the try connect to my lan, it then says can't establish connecton to fring network..
any ideas..????
my lan works ok by the way...

sounds like a firewall issue on your router.... try disabling it to see if works as a test.

on my router I put my phone into the DMZ as that's pretty much how it would be exposed as in a public hotspot

(differs from router to router, but on mine I can assign a static IP to any given MAC, and I put that IP as the DMZ - or default forwarding point for all inbound traffic)

You may also need to open up ports relevant to the services you are using on Fring - e.g. I from the web that 5060 is a common SIP port for VOIP, not sure about other services though (e.g. Skype, MSN, etc. but they seem to work fine).

Basically your router will have a 'firewall' that stops nasty stuff from the web getting onto your computers, such as attempts to hijack your machine to send spam to other people, or steal your bank details. However, it's very possible that the same firewall is stopping legitimate communication between your phone and Skype via Fring. You'll have to find yourself an IT expert as every router setup is different and there are many things that could be done following advice people post on here that will end up packing in your web access.

if you install Skype, does it work from your PC?

So it's just the 'Fring' bit that's not working... sorry, I'm not on Sky - can't help. I suspect they've dished out various models of router too.

I'd stick your question on the Fring forums... they'll be much more experienced there to point you to what you need to put in exactly.
