I have a Vax Rapide (powerjet/brush version). Got a graded version delivered for about £65 and I've been very impressed. I first used it on an old cream rug that had lots of dark stains on it (mainly milk stains - from our baby - being sick, spilling etc). I didn't hold much hope and after immediately cleaning it, it only looked marginally better - but when it dried, it looked (nearly) as good as new.

It always surprises me how dirty the water is after a Vaxing - considering we live in a new home (for the past 9 months) and don't use shoes indoors.

I haven't tried a Bissell, but the Vax seems fine to me - I can't understand why people don't like them.

Our two year old has made a good job of getting our carpet dirty, especially around the table where food gets dropped. Considered hiring a cleaner, but saw a Vax Rapide with a discount at Argos so bought one.

Used it today and done half the lounge and every stain has gone - including a stain from a raw egg dear daughter dropped which we had tried to get out.

Dead easy to use, very light machine, just like using a vacuum cleaner. For less than £60 it was a good buy. Second half of carpet tomorrow!
