Advice please re argos.

Options
After some advice from you all please! Long story so sorry..... On my daughters birthday we got her a bed canopy advertised in argos at £54.95 which lit up.
Once it was unwrapped, and after 45 mins of poles and poking it was assembled, when we realised that it did not have said lights.
The following day I rung argos who were very apologetic and said that they would look into it and call me back after speaking to thier buyers.
After 2 days and no phone call I rung again to be told I would be called back, still waiting......
So I then emailed customer services who replied they were sorry and have told all stores and the information has now been corrected (which I then checked and also price was reduced to £44.99). Whilst I was very pleased for them that all had been changed it did not alter the fact I had not got what I had paid for!
To try and cut a long story short (or shorter!) after several emails back and foward, an offer of a £5 voucher, and being told I can take said canopy back to the store (after taking it down) but there is no guarantee that they will take it back as it is at the store managers discretion.
So this is where the advise is needed.....as it is not as described, what am I entitled to do? The canopy has been assembled and other than the lack of lights lovely, just feel like I have been a bit ripped off:confused:

If it is not as described your rights dictate you can return for a full refund.

They are built in to the sides of the canopy, run by batteries, except the light fitttings not there! Not even space for them it is just a standard canopy. Page 1609 item no 053/4978, disney princess carriage bed, have just had another email back from customer services saying they can help me no further and to make a complaint to contact customer service on a 0845 no. I have just emailed back to say I have already rung them twice last week and both times promised a call back which I have not had!

Network guy, am I still within my rights even though it is assembled as you couldnt tell the light were not there until it was assembled? Very confused with it all, has just left me feeling a bit jaded with it!

Buy another at £39.99 then take it back the next day with the receipt for the original one at £59.99 and get your refund for the original amount. Then you keep the bed but have only paid £39.99 for it. That's what we do when Argos reduce things within the 28 days of us buying at the higher price.

Thanks everyone! the only reason I am reluctant to take it back is because it has been fully assembled and have stupidly got rid of the box, and also because customer services did say it was at the store managers discretion if it could be exchanged or refunded. I was trying/hoping to get customer services to liase with the store. Have had another email today from argos to say could they have my address to send out vouchers !?! Didnt mention anything about my complaint or answer and of my questions and I still havent had a call back! Nor did they say how much vouchers were for. Oh well, lesson learned, I have been over optimistic in my expectation of customer services, there was me thinking they may be able to help in sorting out a problem!

Surely if the item wasnt as described, they have to take it back,or have I missed something?Or is this because you accepted their offer of a reduction in price.

Hollydays, no I havent accepted any reduction in price, initially I was offered a £5 voucher but I said that I didnt feel that was fair, but they have now reduced the price! I also thought I should be at least allowed to exchange as it was not as described, but the customer services department said I could take it into my local store and try, but it was at the managers discretion!!! Also I asked them to confrim that I will get one with lights. I am really confused at what I am entitled to do, I would have thought that as it was not as described I should be able to return it. But I was hoping that the customer services people could speak to the store before I go down there so I dont end up having to argue my point again.
Have just had another email back from someone else at customer services to say that they understood it to have been resolved (!) and will look into it again. The saga continues......... will probably avoid Argos in the future!
