Hi
Just received a letter from Sky to say that the price of Sky is being increased to £49.50 per month as from September. As I have a multi-room Sky is going to cost £59.50 or £714.00 per year!
Obviously I want to reduce this. Does anyone know if you cancel Sky completely can you use your existing equipment to receive freeview channels? I have a Sky+ box and Sky digital receiver (both for over a year).
Digital Spy says that you can in Q14 of the FAQs

Q14. If I cancel my Sky subscription will I get any channels at all?
A. Yes. You'll get all the FTA channels and, providing you keep your card, you will receive the FTV channels too.
Anyone tried this?
Thanks
Allan

sorry i do not know but we are thinking the same thing we have the 19.50 package that will now be 21 not much of a rise but surely going in the wrong direction....0

Yes I've got all free-to-air and free to view channel after cancelling my subs. I think your sky plus box stops working if you aren't paying the subscription fee of £10 per month. When you phone up to cancel the cancellations department does tend to offer you half price three-monthly deals though, so you need to be firm if you really want to cancel.0

Hi
Does the Sky+ box just stop recording or does it stop working completely?
Thanks
Allan
PS - half price for 3 months would save £90, worth knowing. You don't win silver - you lose gold0 -

As stated above though, you'll have to keep paying Sky £10/month so that your Sky+ box retains its functionality (Sky are sly you know).
However, see HERE, you may have a struggle to get Sky Customer Services to understand.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Well we changed our sky subscrption from the £41 package tothe £19.50 a fortnight ago and to be honest we haven't missed the extra channels at all.
We're even thinking of down grading further when the pricing structure changes in September.
Friends who downgraded before us have just come the end of a deal where they had the £41 package for £29 for 3 months and they've told us that whilst it was nice having the sports etc, it wasn;t something that they were willing to pay for on a regular basis.2014 Target;

They offered me an upgrade in June. The full package for 2 months for an extra tenner. I said who wants to watch TV all summer and there is no footy on...NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0

is there any notice period you have to give sky?
eg if i ring them on 20th August can it be cancelled before 1st Sep?0 -
I believe you can change or cancel at anytime. providing you are nut under a fixed contract as a new purchaser. I usually get the sports package in december for the American football, but cancel it after the Superbowl. I pay only for the days I use that package.NO to pasty tax We won!!!!
