New contract or PAYG ???

Hi all,

I'm hoping that your collective brains may be able to offer me some advice.

My current Vodafone contract expires on 18 August. I'm then moving overseas on 31st August for a three year contract. I want to keep my existing UK mobile number for when I come home (as a teacher this could be for 2-3 months in the summers) as I have had this number for about 7 years now and friends and family know it.

I see that I have 4 options:

1. Stay with Vodafone but drop down to pay as you go.

2. Upgrade with Vodafone, sell the new phone and use the minutes when I'm home - most of the minutes will be wasted!

3. Join another network on pay as you go - I don't see much benefit from this.

4. Join another network on an introductory contract offer (hopefully with reduced line rental costs), again flog the phone and use the minutes when I'm at home (again most of them will be wasted)

You see I'm thinking that if I'm lucky I can get free calls on a mobile for the limited time I'm in the UK. This relies on me selling the new phone for about the total price of the line rental for a year.

Thanks in advance for all suggestions.

Pierre
