Can i sell old copies of windows (98 & 95) on ebay?

Howdo all

Recently came into possession of some legit windows 98 & 95 disks, complete with user manuals and assorted how to/for dummies etc type books.

Now i was planning to put these up as bundles on ebay, as some folk like my nan (gawdbless her) still use 98 to surf the web etc...

So question is, whats the crack with licenses etc? Will ebay/microsux object to my listing these items? Anyone?

pray to your respective deity that you don't get some jamrole who buys it and then gets a chargeback because he 'took it to a windows shop and they said it was fake'

there was something on here about a guy with a history of buying legit programmes and then getting full chargebacks after claiming he took them to apple shops and claiming that they said the programme was a fake. paypal dont look kindly upon sellers who sell fakes (even though they weren't)

although you might be alright with old programmes like 95 & 98
    helpful tips
    it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
    their - 'owned by them'
    they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)

Is Windows 98 a 'qualifying' product for an upgrade to XP rather than paying full retail? Can't see any other reason to buy 98, and I guess more people are getting pukka licensed copies of XP in preparation for SP3.

Last summer I bought a pallet of Windows 95 & 98 software and Operating Systems from a clearance auction in Manchester for £10 + fees - about 600 items on the pallet in total.

The first OS system I listed was pulled under Vero, as I am not a licenced Microsoft Reseller. The games and programmes I did list, and sold about 50 or 60 before I needed the space, and resold most of the original pallet for nearly £100.

Besides the potential Vero issue, you will probably find yourself inundated with questions asking if it is compatible with Vista or XP, then when you say "no, that's why it's listed as 95/98 only", you will then get asked "well, could you open it and try it, if it works, then I'll buy it".

(by the way - there were a few of these pallets sold on the day, and there is still plenty of them available on eBay - if you happen to see "The Elder Scrolls - Arena" new and sealed, get it listed on Amazon - it sells for about £90 to the Americans!!!)

Thanks all, i'm gonna give it a whirl i reckon and see what happens :)

Disks are definately legit, but i imagine have been used on a pc at some time or another... TBH i can't make head nor tail of the end user agreement for 98 so im not sure if its allowed or not...

If it gets pulled by ebay or whoever then its freecycle for em i reckon!

    Cheers all

Honestly, it's probably more hassle than what you can get for them.
FYI, if the software has already been used, the licence number might just still be used. In which case, you could face prosecution.
Again, not worth the hassle for the coupla quids you can get.

If it is OEM software, designed for system builders i.e pre-installed when you buy a computer, you are not allowed to sell on the software.

Not worth risking IMHO. You've not only got the other users reporting you but you'll have Microsoft on your back as well.

Besides, the only thing of any value is the Certificate of Authenticity. If you don't have that, you're just selling discs and manuals with no right for the buyer to use them (according to Microsoft, anyway).
