The seller is being short-sighted. Our member, Chaotic, is an enthusiast working in the very area where the seller needs business, I would have thought. I'd be delighted if a buyer took a chunk of stock and I would try to impress them with an unbeatable after-sales service - communicating with them and working out a reasonable rate of shipping.

I can understand Chaotic's frustration at the response he has had from MSE members. It's really not helpful to tell him/her over and over again that he shoulda done this and he shoulda done that. She or he wanted advice on what to do NOW.

I liked the idea of asking the seller to pack up seven parcels and send them to seven different addresses. You might as well get what you paid for.

    Good luck, C.

The way i see it is that the OP thought as postage discount was mentioned as an incentive for multiple purchases that there would be a reasonable amount quoted then for postage.
Technically the seller hasnt done much wrong, except stating clearly the postage discounts on the listing.....morally now thats a different story.

As an aside - what are the new rules for sellers leaving feedback. My way is if the seller has paid promptly then I leave positive feedback (I do the selling) but OH (who does the buying) often has to wait until he has left feedback
;) If you think you are too small to make a difference, try getting in bed with a mosquito!

new rules are not in place until May, and even then a seller can still wait for feedback, before only being able to leave a positive.

The seller is being short-sighted. For providing the service he offered? Our member, Chaotic, is an enthusiast working in the very area where the seller needs business, I would have thought. I'd be delighted if a buyer took a chunk of stock and I would try to impress them with an unbeatable after-sales service - communicating with them and working out a reasonable rate of shipping. Maybe the seller thinks it is reasonable?

I can understand Chaotic's frustration at the response he has had from MSE members. Because he does not like that we disagree with him? It's really not helpful to tell him/her over and over again that he shoulda done this and he shoulda done that. She or he wanted advice on what to do NOW.Easy....pay up or shut up. He bid, and won, so he should pay.

I liked the idea of asking the seller to pack up seven parcels and send them to seven different addresses. You might as well get what you paid for. What is the point of that? Do it by all means, I expect no loss to the seller, but won't the OP have to drive around and pick them up?

Good luck, C. Good luck? In attempting to either not complete a sale, or at least making it awkward for the seller? Great!!

Really suprised by some people's opinions!

If you buy from Amazon marketplace then there is not even an option for discounted P+P. On electrical items (and depending slightly on weight) you will pay £4.40 P+P. Many sellers will then sell items for a penny to help make this work for buyers. You then see complaints from buyers who bought 10 items and got charged £45 P+P!!

That is just the way it works and is the same here. The seller has given a discount as he said he would. It was the OP's responsibility to check BEFORE bidding and if he couldn't agree terms he could have adjusted his bids accordingly or not bothered bidding at all.

I might agree with OP that the discount does not cover the actual real costs but that is life. Before entering into any contract one needs to be very clear of the terms prior to entering into it and not try and alter it after the event.

The seller would be a fool to parcel them up together as he would only have one tracking number for the lot of them.

as i said if the seller receives one payment then only one parcel needs to be sent.

Yes i'm affraid the OP is quite clearly in the wrong...

As a seller yourself, how would you feel if someone won one of your items and then started to moan that the postage was too much?!?

Whether the postage is too expensive or not, it was clearly stated in the auctions and the OP chose to bid on them knowing those prices...

    End of story.....

It wouldn't happen as I know for a fact that our postage rates are more than fair and among the lowest on ebay. Our postage rates and multiple item discounts are clearly stated in the auction description. Where incidentally it also states a maximum postage rate charged for UK parcels and most standard european countries. However I also said that there is not a lot the OP can do about it as the seller is also not legally in the wrong.

OP is Morally correct and seller is legally correct. Unfortunately for the OP it means pay up or accept the consequences.
    Loving the dtd thread. x

And I bet you still get marked down on your P&P star rating!!! I've been doing free postage, but still suck at 4.8 - a friend also offering free P&P is on 4.6!!!
